Weight Gainer vs. Creatine - Thursday, July 16, 2009 8:49 AM ( #1 )
I am interested in putting on about 10 lb of muscle. I'm currently taking whey protein each morning and again after lifting. I was considering buying weight gainer to take each morning, but I do not want to put on fat. Would creatine (cell mass) be a better choice to gain lean muscle?

Don't really know that much about you to help with this.  You can buy creatine monohydrate for dirt cheap, and it will work just as good as cell mass if not better.  It might not be neccesary though.  Putting muscle comes down to your diet primarily and then adequate training.  Weight gainer can possibly overdo the calories or it might not, 500 calories over maintenance each day should be a good place to start see where you go from there.

Creatine doesn't help you gain muscle it simply helps you supply your muscles with energy allowing you to get out possibly a few extra reps in your workout and help your muscles remain hydrated providing you drink enough water. Weight gainer is basically the amount of carbs, protein and fat you would get from a standard meal. So if you're looking for extra calories (which is never a bad thing on a bulk) then weight gainer is what you want. Make sure you look for the ones with less sugar per serving.

You can still take creatine if your gaining, but it shouldn't be creatine or weight gainer. It should be both. But I agree that you should only get creatine mono. In my opinion, go with cytosports monster milk. It's profile is excellent with 50 g of protein, a bunch of BCAAs, and glutamine. It has both fast digesting proteins and the alpha and beta caseins which are slow digesting. So I would suggest taking a serving post workout and one right before bed. Or you could go with a cheap whey protein and get optimum nutritions casein for before bed. That's what I'm doing now. The casein gets into your stomach and takes longer to digest so it keeps your body in an anabolic state so your muscles can grow. I would go with a cheap whey and then casein if i were you, then of course creatine mono. Your body can only take so much protein at one time, so the 50 g in the monster milk may be overkill.
