OK...My wifes PT/ Diet Guru....3 weeks into her "program tells her....."Oh gosh girl...you gotta do Crossfit"....All the Bodybuilders and Fitness competitors are doing it...It is a must!!!" Well.I, myself have never heard of "Crossfit",but apparently there is a whole sub-culture of Certified "crossfit" trainers,Specialized gyms and such. What the hell????? My wife only wanted to get in shape...lose the weight she put on while recovering from a back injury, and Live a healthy lifestyle. I of course, was happy that she was finally seeing the light...But am no expert on weight loss programs or Diets....I can eat a loaf of bread and Gallons of milk a day and not gain an ounce....Pizza,Pasta,Brown rice out the ying yang....No biggie for me....She looks at it and gains weight...LOL. Any body have any info on the Crossfit phenomenon?? Any links or info into this would be greatly appreciated... Thanks Everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its good for getting in shape, maybe cutting? its good for endurance and some str imo. The army is getting into it and i can see its uses in the military. I agree its not really for Body building, but for getting in shape, i think its along the lines of the p90x a little bit? but with heavier weights used... cross fit will really wear you out. Its like that exercises they do in that drama highschool fight movie, "never back down".

Some of their principals are decent. But following their guidelines wouldn't work for me. Couple guys at the gym I am going to do crossfit, they did some 1rm squats the other day and I worked in with them when I was doing 20 rep squats, funny when it came my turn I'm repping for 20 more than they did for 1rm.

Yeah....Thanks MVP.....And everyone else. I don't really think I'm gonna suggest she gets involved in all this crossfit stuff. She has already lost 21 pounds, doing really well with the routine and diet...I think crossfit is a little much for what her goals are, right now, anyhow. I guess ya learn something new everyday....This whole concept was a new one for me....LOL...Thanks Guys!!!!!

They are pretty cool guys but by no means have outstanding athletic ability. But my training is about speed, explosion and power as well. But I clearly stated that I wouldn't follow their guidelines, and understand their goals are a bit different than mine.

Crossfit is all about General Physical Preparedness (GPP). It is excellent for martial artists, firefighters, police officers, military personnel, bodyguards, etc. You can get bigger and stronger doing it, but definitely not as efficiently.
"But a true champion, face to face with his darkest hour, will do whatever it takes to rise above. A man fights, and fights, and then fights some more. Because surrender is death, and death is for pussies."

It's a conditioning thing. The stuff I do in MMA is very similar to the crossfit workouts. Go to the crossfit website (crossfit.com??? not sure), and everyday they have a "WOD", which is the workout of the day. That will give you an idea of the kind of stuff they have you do.

hey bulking whatsssup!! from what i've read it looks like enough people have explained xfit to ya! anyways, xfit is pretty awesome and we do it a lot in the military. it seriously gets you in some good shape. personally i wouldnt suggest it for your wife. it is a routine that requires you to be in somewhat good of shape before you begin any kind of xfit regime....thats just my opinion. dont want your wife starting it and then having a heart attack ya know. anyways, i've done it and do it every now and then and think it is a great regime for martial arts/law enforcement/military/sports and what not.

HEY KUBS....Been a while!!!!! Yeah....after researching it more...she's not going the crossfit route, especially since she is just back into the gym and we are really focusing on building up her core strength right now. XFIT sounds like something I might like to try out sometime in the future though...sounds like fun!

I would add to what many have said...that CF is by no means a fad. There are CrossFit gyms all over the country. It has been around for years and is high intensity, functional training. That being said, if you are purely focused on Body Building it is probably not for you. These workouts are often utilized by military, fire, and police personnel as they similate quick intense movements that may need to be performed on the job. The workouts can last from 10 minutes to 45 minutes and are focused on primary Olympic lifts (deadlift, snatch, squat, press, etc.), bodyweight exercises (rope climb, push-ups, pull-ups, burpees, inverted push-ups, box jumps, rowing, etc.), and gymnastics (ring dips, muscle-ups, etc.) I have incorporated CrossFit into my traditional routine as a way of mixing things up, getting stronger, and making workouts fun. These workouts kick your @$$, and as someone who trains not for BB shows but to get stronger, bigger, faster, and honestly to look and feel good about myself; CrossFit is a great addition to my endurance and lifting routines. Just my 2 cents as my wife was recently certified as a CrossFit instructor as well.

HaHa...I never even knew it...but there's a crossfit gym in my town...I never knew it was so popular. Yes...It is all about "functional" training...Theres lots of cops and firefighters at ours....I went in to check it out. They give a "free" class every saturday. Right now,I'm in the middle of a 12 week cycle,so not a good time, while I'm in a bulking phase currently (LOL...ALWAYS)...But I might give it a shot in the spring.
