RE: WHOSE GOT THE BIGGEST ARMS HERE? - Saturday, June 03, 2006 5:16 AM ( #31 )
If I roll my eyes any harder, I'll give myself a headache, LOL.

Don't worry, NextBigThing, I don't take offense , but old misconceptions die hard, apparently.

As I pointed out in my blog, I'm not a toothpick because of my vegetarianism -I'm a toothpick because I spent my childhood drawing pictures and picking my nose when I should have been out playnig sports with other kids my age, ha ha ha.  I also lay a big part of the blame on my parents, thanks to their lousy genes.  No one in four generations of my family has ever had greater than 15" biceps (except my cousin Sal, and that wasn't muscle ).  Even my carnivorous brother -who is arguably the only other person in my family who has ever lifted seriously- never managed to get his guns above 15".

I plan to be the first.

Don't think for one second that I don't know what it would take to get these guns freaky huge -I'm talking Olympia huge- and TwistedLink is dead on the dollars there -it has more to do with what kind of pharmaceuticals I'd be willing to inject than where my protein comes from.  That's true for anyone who starts out with 11" guns, I don't care what their diet is made of.

I get more nutrition then anyone I know between the ages of 13-17, besides people on here. Where I come from you either are athletic by genes and sports, your fat, or your skinny. I have the best diet for my age within a 50 mile radius if not more. I'm stronger then any 13 year old I've ever met, and most 14-15 year old too. You sortta did offend me (I'll get over it) cuase I've been dealing with this bull**** ignorance all my life. People think I'm a wuss, I'm not strong, I have no muscle, just cuase I have a different (better) diet. People look down on vegitarians becuase they love animals, we have to deal with a lotta ****. (at least the younger ones do) I don't understand why you think we can't get as big of muscles? Does meat have some magical powers? I can get just as much nutrition from soy or a supplement.

It's all a myth that vegitarians can't be as muscular.

There was an absolutely huge man featured in Muscle & Fitness or Flex a few months back, a personal trainer I believe who was preaching a kettlebell routine and the wonder of it.  I say wow this guy has a nice physique etc etc then I read down a few lines and he is a 100% vegetarian, I 'll look for the article and scan pics on here but he was really impressive.

There is some vegetable that has more proteing than chicken. It's the root of something, but I can't think of it right now. There is nothing we can get from meat that you can't get from a vegetable or supplement. I worked at supway and there was a vegetarian that cam in almost everyday that worked out regularly. He wasn't huge but he was definetly bigger and more cut than the average lifter.

Textured vegetable protein, also known as textured soy protein (TSP) is a meat substitute made from defatted soy flour, a by-product of making soybean oil. It is quick to cook, high in protein, and low in fat.

No, it's not soy; It's something else.

p.s. soy is a bean not a root, at least the part that you eat.

I know, I'm just saying Soy is a nonanimal food with just as much sometimes more then an average steak etc.

Textured soy protein can be used as a substitute for ground beef.  I see it used very often in vegetarian chili -tho I'm not a huge fan of it.  It picks up the flavor of whatever you cook with it, like tofu, so it's not a flavor issue.  I guess, for me, I didn't go vegetarian so I could find things that taste and feel like meat, LOL

The other common meat replacement you see a lot of is called saitan.  Basically it's concentrated wheat gluten that can (if prepared properly) have the same texture as flank steak or beef Stroganoff (cue the Beavis & Butthead impression)...  Personally, I think it's nasty, and it has approximately the same mouth feel and palatability as rubber bands - or Calamari, for that matter
