WHEY PROTEIN
-
Thursday, June 11, 2009 12:51 PM
( #1 )
Hello. I just started the gym back on 5-29 of this year. I have been doing the treadmill, and lifting now for 1hr per day. My abs, and arms are sore the day after. I was told to take WHEY PROTEIN 1g per lb of weight. What's the truth behind this? Should I take creatine and protein together? If so how? when? loading on both? I have heard alot about these products, but I want to hear what people from this website say. Don't bash me here. I'm asking questions.

I picked up body fortness whey protein, and I'm going to take 4 shakes threwout the day. 4 shakes 2 scoops in each. It will go like this: One shake when I wake up. One shake at lunch before my workout. One shake after my workout. One shake before bed. That's a grand total of 208grams of protein. That's a good amount sense I'm 250lbs. My diet is low in protein, so the shakes will help with that until I raise it in my diet. Once I do that I will discrease the number of shakes per day. FEEDBACK is wanted :)

Daily protein intake can be 1g per pound, not just from whey. Most of your protein should come from whole foods and the whey shakes should be used after your workouts, and for a meal replacement as needed.

Whey protein shakes should be taken one or two times during the day, three times is alright but it's really pushing it and should only be considered as a last resort. The times your body is in the highest need of protein is - Upon wakening
- Post-Workout
- Before bed
Upon wakening because you've went about 6-8 hours without protein, before bed to keep your body in an anabolic state during most of the night (preventing catabolism), post-workout to adequately repair damaged muscle tissue as quickly as possible. Before bed you'd ideally want some sort of slow releasing proteins - a casein shake or cottage cheese. Muscle milk is good too, but it's not only made up of casein. Post-workout and upon wakening whey in water is ideal.

5g is all the creatine you need, you'd typically piss out anymore than that. Creatine post-workout is ideal. Mixing it in your whey protein shake is alright. What other supplements are you taking? Multi-vitamins are cool.

I'm taking whey protein 3 times per day. Multi-vitamins once in the morning. With just that will it help me at all? Or do I have to add creatine to see results? I'm 28lbs over weight. I was told creatine will make me hold water, and it will look like i'm baloon.

Creatine after my work? Someone talked to me about loading with creatine. I don't understand that. I did pickup CELLTECH creatine from GNC. I haven't used it yet thought. I want to ask questions first. I lift everyday for at least 30mins and most of the time for one hour. I hit the mill for 15mins too.

Most creatine does add to water weight, but there are some forms of creatine that minimizes this - like micronized creatine...the molecules have been micronized in it to make the effect of water weight less significant. If you're cutting I'd avoid it personally, three protein shakes per day is a little over the edge, but if it's due to time constraints then I would suppose it's alright. Whey in water upon wakening and post-workout is ideal, especially when cutting. Taking a slow releasing protein is ideal at night too - cottage cheese being a good example. You're cutting, right?

I'm cutting. With the whey protein won't I pack on the lbs in muscle? I want to loose the 28lbs over weight I got. Then reshape what I have.

Supplements are there to supplement your diet. It's an addition. Your diet will determine everything, not protein shakes or any other supplement. The point of protein shakes is for a quick intake of protein when you most need it, not to be your main source of protein. Look at your diet, not your stack, because that's what really matters.

No, you won't pack on lbs from just protein, in 1 scoop of whey there isn't a significant amount of calories, especially if you mix it with water.

Ok heres the deal. My diet stinks, but I have a family too. I manager a retail store, so I'm working alot. I drink tons of coffee with xcream and tons of sugar. I eat a muffin in the morning, and a nice home cooked dinner. I need help changing my diet without breaking the bank. My muscles are looking better sense I have been hitting the gym. You can see the difference, but I want to loose my gut. I can flex my abs, and see them fine. Just like when I flex my arms the muscles look great. What's the right direction to get my muscles looking like their flexed all the time? Don't bash me. I take the protein shakes with 2% milk. Give me a diet to follow to get the results I want. I'm willing to change everything. I just need direction.

Losing your gut will require cutting *odyfat, extremely difficult to do while gaining muscle. As far as your diet goes, a muffin wouldn't merely *e enough and wouldn't *e a suita*le choice regardless. Eggs/egg whites, oatmeal and a fruit would *e an excellent *reakfast and would *e inexpensive. Here's something easy for you to go *y. Meal 1 - Eggs, Oatmeal, Almonds Meal 2 - protein shake Meal 3 - chicken, *rown rice, veggies Meal 4 - Protein *ar, fruit Meal 5 - fish or chicken, *rown rice, veggies Meal 6 - Protein shake You could eliminate one of the meals if you felt it was too much, just make sure you get your shake post-workout. Add a fruit or *anana if you'd like. To further advise, are you *ulking or cutting? If your cutting I may need to make some adjustments to that diet.

Well I want to loose my gut, and gain muscle. I would say gain. Is the coffee and sugar making my gut? Meal 1 - Eggs, Oatmeal, Almonds Meal 2 - protein shake Meal 3 - chicken, *rown rice, veggies Meal 4 - Protein *ar, fruit Meal 5 - fish or chicken, *rown rice, veggies Meal 6 - Protein shake How much of each meal? What am I looking at? Adding calories, and that's it?

Also with my job requiring me to keep moving, and have 1 if any breaks. How can I fit in 6 meals per day...well 4 meals. I can drink a protein shake twice with no problem.

Well then fit in the two shakes to help you get your daily need of calories. You could probably do the old fashion three meals per day with a shake in between each meal then, that gives you a combined total of five meals during the day, at 400 calories per meal (which are small meals) that's still 2,000 calories per day, of course you could adjust the ratio of the meal size as necessary.

Newbie gains, yes it matters what you eat. Lifting heavy and eating McDonalds you'll end up some fat powerlifter. You can get bigger and stronger eating anything, but your bodyfat will rise like fireworks on July 4th, too. It matters what you eat - stick to lean proteins like boneless, skinless chicken, tuna, brown rice, veggies, fruits, water, protein shakes, beef to a small extent. You still haven't told me if you're trying to cut (lose weight) or bulk (gain muscle). What is your routine?

No, 10 protein shakes per day would be terrible. Rely on whole foods, two or three protein shakes per day should be it. No more than 30% of your protein requirements should come through liquids. As far as defining goes, you'll need to cut. I'll provide you with a bit more information on it once I get home.

so if I take 3 shakes per day. I need to eat 2 meals. right? is it better to bulk up with muscle, and then cut? If I bulk now will it actually show my muscles or will I have to cut to show them? not talking about just abs, all muscles. 3 shakes is 150g of protein or so. Two scoops per shake. Thats almost 800 calories.
