VIDEO: 500lb Deadlift @ 198lbs Body Weight...I need Your Help Please
-

( #1 )
I woke up this morning with deadlifts on my mind, so I went to the gym and gave 500lbs try. All lower back baby (That's not a good thing) Deadlift Video Guys I need your help. As you can see, my deadlifting technique is horrible -- I don't do them often. Thismovement has always been difficult for me to learn. So if you have anytips, comments or advice they will be greatly appreciated. Let me have it, I'm a big boy. (P.S I'm 5'11 and I have a 78" wingspan if that means anything)

Link doesn't work for me... And why the hell would you be attempting 500lb if your form is as bad as you say? Not smart.

yeah i just got to it through your youtube profile. Yeah, you need to stop lifting heavy when it looks like that. #1 Problem: You rounded your back. DO NOT DO THIS I can not stress how horribly you can injure yourself, especially at that weight, from a rounded back. You also raised your hips up too fast, and basically did a round-backed, stiff-leg deadlift. I can't think of a single exercise in the gym that has more potential for serious injury. Drop the weight to 135 (yes, 135), and practice your form. I don't know where to start with pointers because so much was wrong. My advice, buy Starting Strength and read it before you attempt them again.

You straighten your legs and then raise your back.Where it should be one smooth ROM. Do as NBS suggested and practice with light weight.

jlp You straighten your legs and then raise your back.Where it should be one smooth ROM. you put periods in tha middle of your thoughts, where it should be one smooth sentence. lol but yea, while it was impressive (tha weight, not tha form) definatly take it down and maybe watch some videos on proper form or something.

Butt raised way too high before the lift started. Why use a belt?

Godzmarine Butt raised way too high before the lift started. Why use a belt? lol. Some older gentleman suggested I put one on, so I listened out of respect. And I always wanted to see what they felt like.

The belt is a good idea for max attempts. It just helps stabilize your core by giving your abs something to push out against. Butt down, eyes strait ahead, flat back, bar should drag along the legs the whole time.

rippedchick Butt down, eyes strait ahead, flat back, bar should drag along the legs the whole time. What about my pretty legs though? They could get scraped or even worse... cut. Seriously though, Thanks for the advice everyone. Your help is very much appreciated. I'll get started on learning and practice the deadlift Monday. I've been watching videos and reading about proper deadlift technique since this afternoon. Let's see if I can apply what I learned.

As you can see, my deadlifting technique is horrible -- I don't do them often. Thismovement has always been difficult for me to learn. So if you have anytips, comments or advice they will be greatly appreciated. Let me have it, I'm a big boy. (P.S I'm 5'11 and I have a 78" wingspan if that means anything) First thing, your starting position is wrong. Start with the bar over the mid of your foot (the whole foot). Bend over and grip it so that your shoulders are a little in front of the bar. Lift your chest high, and stick your ass out. Then push your feet against the floor. You basically lifted it without letting the quads do part of the job, so it became a SLDL. Keep your chest high and don't let your knees extend without lifting the bar. You are very strong, and you can be much stronger with the correct form. No need to lower the weight to 135. Just fix your form with a reasonable weight. Oh, and read this: http://www.crossfit.com/journal/library/51-2006_AnalysisofDeadlift.pdf

my goodness. that looked somewhat painful you jerked the weight somewhat. form was bad as you said. still unsure why you load up a quarter of a ton of weight and attempt an exercise that you "don't do very often". coldfire gave some good advice. i'd advise you follow it. lower the weight, get that form down... and then start adding weight. you are by no means weak. but you're just asking for an injury eventually the higher you go in weight with improper form
My name is FOX.... and I approve this message.

That is exactly what went through my head as I looked at my front squats. You have all the advice you need. Crazy weight for poor form. Can't wait to see what you'll put up, with the corrections!!!
