Using creams to relieve pain - Wednesday, November 30, 2005 1:55 PM
Hi, would using Icy Hot to relieve weightlifting pain/soreness be okay for me? I mean, we lift weights to make the muscle tear up and get bigger right? so would applying cream make the inflammation go down so it doesn't actually get big at all? and also, can we take aspirin everytime we get all achy and stuff?

i would suggest listening to your body. if it hurting you to the point where you feel you need creams to stop it what you will be doing is dulling the pain and you may hurt your self more since you cant really feel it.  yes there is natural soreness but if it real bad you might want to rest more.

I agree with the last comment and I would not suggest taking alot of asprin for muscle aches. It could make your blood thinner than it needs to be. If you want to help muscle pain go with advil, it is an anti-inflammatory and will do a much better job but do not take on an empty stomach.

Aspirin is not bad for you but I think there are better things for healthy people that have pain. We only want our blood so thin and taking this daily can make it way to thin. We do not know what tomarrow holds and if we have an accident and end up in the emergency room with lacerations this could be the medics worst nightmare as they could have a hard time controlling the bleeding.

Advil or ibuprofen on the other hand work to bring inflamation down. This could be a sore muscle or a joint problem and it will help to heal it over time and not just treat it.

When a muscle gets hurt it tends to pull on surrounding muscles and ligaments. You then could end up with shoulder pain or neck pain. Using advil could help reduce this tendancy.

I am not a doctor though so you should not listen to me but rather talk to a pharmacist or sports doctor.

Honestly, Yes. We should not take them unless we have to. It is a foreign substance that is not natural.

Our body is full of receptors that can be burnt up. When this happens it is like a zippo without lighter fluid. That is why most people cycle most supplements. I have had surgeries where I was given pres. pain pills and they knocked me out but after a couple of weeks my system built up a tolerance for it. This tolerance is no more than our receptors needing more of something to get the same stimulis.
