look at all of the greek statues and stuff, people knew what a perfect physique was. think about it, people did everything by hand and were as tough as nails all throughout history. its only recently that we have become a lazy and worthless society. there have been heavy objects since the beginning of time, why not lift those?

People back then worked all day every day. No Americans or anyone else for that matter, work nearly as hard as they did. Every second of the day was lifting and walking. Look at rulers either fat or very skinny. Now look at an average worker very muscular.

I drew a picture of me killing 50 kangaroos with a tin opener, doesnt mean its true, in fact its quite well known that pictures in the past especially for powerful people-were exxagerated to keep them happy. picture doesnt denote that guys real size. The human body tries its best to obtain optimum weight, bodybuilders load there bodies with protein, the body gets rid of this via muscle growth when we workout. obviously the body can only go so far, til you use steroids.

That is the Farnese Hercules -a Roman interpretation of an Athenian sculpture, which presently resides in the National Archeological Museum in Naples. It's a cheap shot to suggest that "This guy got this way without steroids or supplements... blah blah blah..." because this sculpture was, as TwistedLink pointed out, an idealized standard. Think about it: Hercules is only one of the most prominent heroic figures of Greek mythology ever dipicted in art. Of course they took artistic lisence with the exhaggeration -just like today's comic book artists take with superman, the Incredible Hulk, and every other avatar in this forum If you want a closer parallel to this kind of physique in modern bodybuilding, look at Dorian Yates. No offense, Mr. Yates, but your physique succeeds on a much different level than what I consider to be exceptional bodybuilding aesthetic. Yates looked more like the classical greek ideal than any other bodybuilder I've ever seen -raw, brute size. But he wasn't particularly "pretty" -like someone with Dexter Jackson's or Ronnie's proportionality.

Yes, that's me in my avatar, and NO, I don't look like that today. That was taken back in Jan '07, and I lost most of that progress when I slacked off last year. I'm on my way back, tho, and I'm using that photo for inspiration.
