Folks are always looking for foods to add bulking calories to their diet; what they often fail to realize is that you don't need to shovel a pound of pasta or a quart of over-priced gainer formla down your throat at every feeding just to get huge calories. Want a DIRT SIMPLE way to add 600 calories to your daily inhalation in one little snack? Better yet, how about 600 healthy calories? This one is as old as dirt, but it never fails: Get yourself two thick slices of nasty, funky, gnarly whole grain bread -forget "sticks & twigs" -I want construction debris in those bad boys. If you're going for store-bought, my personal favorite is Arnold's Whole Grain Classics 12 Grain (slices are a bit too thin, so use three). There's 325 calories right there! 12g of protein, 57g of carbs, only 6g of fat. Toss in two heaping tablespoons of organic peanut butter. There's another 180 calories, 7g of protein, 6g of carbs, and 15g of good fat. Add banana slices (eat whatever doesn't fit in the sandwich) for another 109 calories, 1g of protein, 28g of carbs, and 1g of fat. It doesn't get any easier than that, folks. 20 grams of protein, a big hit of healthy carbs, and a hearty helping of brainfood fats -and that's before you add the milk (or Soy Milk, if you'r a Veggilante like me ). Put two of these puppies away right before bed, that's 40 grams of slow-digesting protein right there. More than one QUARTER of my daily requirement, in a BEDTIME SNACK! Did I mention, The goal of this craziness is BULKING?

Yes, that's me in my avatar, and NO, I don't look like that today. That was taken back in Jan '07, and I lost most of that progress when I slacked off last year. I'm on my way back, tho, and I'm using that photo for inspiration.

Veggies to cut: green beans, broccoli if you can tolerate without gas, spinach, dark green fibrous veggies. Avoid peas, carrots n corn, too starchy for cutting. cutting carbs: Oats, quinoa, kamut, spelt, millet, yams and tubers. As for proteins, it depends on what extent you are veg - vegan, pescatarian, lacto, ovo..... Linda
