I'm sure many of us experience our muscles twitching or being shakey after a good work-out.  What does this mean?  To much of something?  To little of something?

What is happening for the body to do this?

I was just curious and thought I would post up.

A friend of mine told me that happens when you dont lift. I'm not really sure why it happens, anybody care to elaborate?

It is just a 'side effect' of working out muscles you arent used to working out.

When you exercise with weights, your muscles contract and expand.

What you experience afterward (the 'twitching') is residual involuntary muscle activity, especially after you have worked the affected muscle group to the fatigue point.

I think it means you're relatively new to lifting. I rember it happening to me when I was starting to lift, I haven't noticed it in a really long time though. Seems to me like your body adaps to lifting and it stops happening.

I have been working out for over 2 years quite consistenly (3-4 times a week).  Sometimes though I change it up and do more intensity or a slightly different degree of difficulty.

I was just curious what causes twitches, like a sceintific approach:)

Thanks for the replies!

Alright Look i'll explain it to you.  I'm studying in college.  When you lift your tearing away your old muscle tissue, your body has to build new, stronger tissue in it's place.  The shaking and muscle tremors are caused by the exposed nerve tissue under the muscle.  You'll feel alittle shakey and everything till you have a protein shake.  Then your body will begin rebuilding and that's when your body stops have muscle tremors.
