Turkey Pastrami for cutting? - Monday, February 02, 2009 5:37 PM ( #1 )
I usally eat a good sliced turkey breast and turkey pastrami sandwhiches a couple times a day. I get the meats from the Deli.

Should i switch my choice of meats? or my choice of deli meats is fine for cutting?

Can you guys name some good meats that i can pick up sliced from the deli?

Deli meats are out.  Replace them with fish that is not fried, chicken breast, egg whites, fat free cottage cheese and canned tuna.

Personally, deli meats are for cheat days.

yeah they really arent that great for cutting and are high in sodium, processed.

if your in the mood for some turkey, go buy a bird, cook it and enjoy turkey for the next week or 2.

All the other stuff Stock named are great also.

So what should i be eating for cutting as a source of meats/protein besides egg whites, tuna, oven cooked fish, chicken breast?

Please give me some ideas.

I really dont have a problem with Deli meats i mean it may not be the healthiest but i dont think it will hurt ur gains that much imo i just think some ppl get so paranoid they just drive themselves to eating almost nothing that tastes good lol just eat less then u burn and drink plenty of water

Sorry...but this isn't very sound advice.
"i mean it may not be the healthiest but i dont think it will hurt ur gains that much" - Cutting is the most important time to be as  healthy as possible. Also, nobody said anything about hurting gains...we're talking about efficiently cutting.  There is a big difference. When you cut you are more or less maintaining muscle mass and shredding body fat. Gains are a relevent topic when bulking.

"they just drive themselves to eating almost nothing that tastes good " - It has nothing to do with taste. This sport takes sacrifice and when you are serious you will see that its not all fun and not always easy.  People drive themselves to do what it takes to achieve.

Simply eating less than you burn is not necessarily going to result in a successful cut.  You must be mindful of the foods that you are taking in. Should I eat 1 cheeseburger a day and say that I'm cutting because I'm eating less than I burn? Of course not. I may lose weight that way but I'm going to lose alot of muscle as well.

I gave him a serious answer....not a half assed "just eat less, deli meat is fine" answer.

Great reply Stock....Good to see you around BTW
Yeah, taste should never be the determining factor in what you you put body.
If you do, you'll look like 90% of the overweight population.

If it appeared that we were rubbing "you face in it", I apologise, it certainly wasn't my intent.
However, if you are serious about being healthy and taking care of your body, then it IS sound advice.

Yes its very sound advice but i was merely suggesting that take things u like in moderation but make sure u dont go over board and enjoy wat ur eating if its getting plain spice it up with seasons(low sodium) to keep things different

Wrecked - Going back I can see why you feel the way you do. I dont mean to put you down at all, please dont take it that way.

I just want to make sure he has accurate advice. If someone thinks that processed meats are ok for cutting they may start spreading that knowledge to other newer members....and thats not good. Believe me, I am far from a competitive bodybuilder but am passionate about the importance of dieting. Anyone who is semi-serious about this sport should pay close attention to it as well.  Again...didnt mean to come across the wrong way, we just need to make sure people get accurate advice. No hard feelings I hope!

I think keep it to cheat meals. I very much agree with stock. The last few times I've been to the store I've wanted to get some chorizo, salami. If your tired of bland chicken breast, put olive oil on them, or have thighs, much juicier. Maybe once or twice a week I'll have bacon with salmon or tuna or eggs, I think bacon is ok apart from nitrates what are your thoughts stock?

I love deli meat. If I ever do a proper cut, I am aware that i'd have to give up my precious roast beef. :(
Everytime I get on this forum, I get a craving for peanut butter.
