Tricep Tendinitis Straps and their placement.

Hello all. As usual I am looking for some advice on a couple of Items. I know tendinits is a common post on this forum and I have searched for results first. 1. What kind/brand of straps should I be looking at for Tricep tendinitis? This is self diagnosed, I have pain across the back of my elbow which has continually gotten worse over the past few weeks. I have taken two complete weeks off from the gym and am spending the next two doing only cardio and abs. Then I plan on working back in with lighter weights until I feel better. However, I don't know what kind of strap I should by. Can you guys/girls suggest anything. 2. Placement. Just above the elbow at the bottom of the tricep? This just seems like it would be a little akward for us with larger arms. Also how tight should the strap be? Thanks. Brent Also, I know seeing a doctor is the next step if this does not improve. Thanks again.

You are already at risk of prolonging your injury. You said you've had pain for weeks. It will be many more if you don't go see a doctor ASAP. I speak from very, very sad experience.

well, puttin aside that ifu dont rest for at least a lil while, then u will prolong (which i personally do all thet ime becasue i could care less about alil pain when I do light weights), but go to www.jackalsgym.com and go to the store section..and check out the rehbands...tehy r WONDERFUL. So tight but yet doesnt cut off circulation. I absolutely couldnt live without them when I do my warm-ups.

There are two elbow based products on the website. The elbow support model or the Tennis Elbow model. Also is there any difference vs. just the straps? Any other thoughts?

Hey Brent, glad to hear it. Let us know what happens, how the tendonitis is being treated, and what you think of it all! :) Z

Straps for tennis elbow - placed BELOW the elbow - where the forearm joins the elbow. Straps for tricep tendonitis - place ABOVE the elbow - about 1-2 finger breadths from the elbow. The basic principle is to 'shorten' the tendon so that the pivot point of the muscle is on a 'healthy point' on the tendon rather than the sore part. Sorta changing the insertion point of the tendon in an artificial way - if that makes any sense. Seeing a doctor - goes without saying for all injuries.

Z - I will definitly give updates, and see what the doc says. Lynx - Thanks for the information it's exactly what I need. Brent. Ps. God I want to lift. My girlfriend is afriad of what I will turn into, temper wise, if I don't lift. Also, I am still in the gym 4-5 days a week. Only for now I am focused on abs and cardio.

OK. so last thursday I went to the doctor to get my tricepts checked out. First off I went to sports medicine doctor hoping that he/she would work with me rather than limiting me on my recovery, this doctor did just that. After an exam and x-rays it's official I have tricep tendinitis on both arms, however, I don't have any calcium deposits or bone spurs. He gave me a prescription for 500mg of some Anti-Inflamitory and another prescription for Physical Therapy. The Anti-Inflamitories seem to work well however I haven't set up my therapy just yet. ( waiting on info from my health insurance company). I haven't touch a weight in 5 weeks and won't until I get the ok from my physical therapist. Hopefully I can hold out. Thanks Brent

Cannon..how is it going? Tell me, what have you done for the elbow and how did it work out? Are you back lifting yet? You know there is a Physical Therapist on DB infrequently and he wrote this review of current tendon therapies for therapy...this will give you some ammo to understand what really has efficacy... http://www.absolutept.com/tendinitispage.htm
