Training elbow tendonitis?

So, I'm about to start with a client that has elbow tendonitis and she wants to strengthen upper body. Has anyone experienced this or have some good upper body exercises that allow upper body strengthening/toning without causing worsening of the symptoms? I figure nothing that focuses on full tricep extension or puts a lot of pressure on the elbow joint. Any trainers or others who have some tips, let me know. Also, she is 38, almost 39, and has relatively good cardiovascular health. Thanks.

You are on the right track here - full tricep extension or too much weight will re-trigger the symptoms. Work within her limits. Slowly but surely progress the weights/routine as tolerated. If it hurts, stop and cease activity & rest for as long as needed. A careful, sensible approach to training will ensure that she will be in good health.
