Training - Thursday, March 04, 2004 8:58 AM ( #1 )
I start out working five days a week for an hour a day. I do 5 sets of 15 reps, then 10 reps, then 5 reps, working on the upper body then lower on different days. Like monday would be upper body, tuesdays lower body but working the abs and glutes all five days. Any suggestions on is this ok or do I need to revise it. Any suggestion on any supplements to take to help body mass. I was thinking of the ripped fuel extreme.

Are you trying to GAIN body mass? If so, ripped fuel extreme will not help that at all. It may give you energy, but it's a diet pill for losing weight.

If your trying to bulk, you might wanna try splitting up your muscles more than just upper and lower body

For example

Monday: Chest, Tuesday: Back Wednesday: Quads and hams Thursday: Shoulders and calfs
....etc....

What are your specific goals?

thats alot of reps for that many sets.....should be more like 5 sets at 5 reps heavy weight....and even at that, ive been told that its alot....the critical bench has even less sets and reps... WAY less. and a split of some sort would be awesome....ur glutes and abs need rest too....two straight days might be enough rest, but what do i know....good luck

If you're trying to gain mass, you should go heavier. The theory is this- Your body can adapt to a lot of different things, and lifting heavy weights is one of them. For example- If you do bicep curls with a heavy weight, your body will try to build stronger biceps in order to be able to lift that weight. Of course, you have to feed your body properly in order to give it the building blocks it needs for that muscle- Check out the nutrition forum for more on that. The other thing your body will need is rest- Plenty of rest. Most people make the mistake of working out too much, and they don't see gains- If I'm reading your post right, it sounds like you're working out upper body and lower body for five days straight, alternating between the two- Way too much. If you're lifting heavy weights, you need to give each muscle group a week to recover in order to see REAL gains. Even if you feel like you're ready for another chest workout or whatever, leave it until next week. Just because you're not sore anymore doesn't mean the body's done building the new muscle- Remember, muscle grows while you're resting, not while you're in the gym. Try out a routine like Nick posted, and try shooting for six to eight reps. There are programs out there that will have you go even heavier for even less reps, but I'd get used to six to eight first.
