Torn Lateral Meniscus - Knee
-

( #1 )
I tore my lateral meniscus in my left knee and it is really painful for now, am going through physical therapy (not really useful until the swelling goes down) but I am opting for the non-surgery repair, as I do not wish to go under the knife at the moment if it will heal on it's own. My muscles will regain 80-90% of their size, but not strength, I know, but the weights will come back for sure with time. My question for you out there is...has anyone ever experienced this themselves, or perhaps have a friend who tore their meniscus? I am wondering if I'll ever be the same either way. It tore because of dumb-luck. Turned the wrong way while walking, heard a pop, then I went down faster than a working-girl. Thanks for any help you can provide.

According to the research I did, I put together this article on Pain Behind the Knee The tear you described and the non-surgery options I found are the same as I wrote in my article. There are some things you can do to get the swelling down. You might have already tried them.

YOu will probably need a scope surgery. It is not that big of a deal, they will probably not open you up, and you will feel and be much better in a few short weeks. The meniscus does not have a very good blood supply and some parts, not at all. Without blood, it will not heal, with little blood, it will heal VERY slowly.
