To sauna or not to sauna
-
Tuesday, June 06, 2006 10:51 AM
I have a question on going into the sauna. I usually work1-2 muscle groups a day with 15 minutes of cardio before and after my lifting. I am going for mass…but I have lots of weight that can go to... My question is what are the main benefits of a sauna? Is it to reduce soreness, Speed up rebuild time, cause your metabolism to speed up? Give you a place to pass out and die? Make you drink more water and benefits the bottled water companies ….could be a bottled water company conspiracy….. Seriously though should I be using the sauna after a workout and if so about how long would you recommend for a 256 pound male in his mid 20’s.?

dont know about the soreness, but i do know it makes you sweat and loose water weight. good for cutting right before a competion. but if your gaining mass you dont need to loose water weight. Old people use it for relaxation, so it might help loosen the muscles out.

Back when I used to play highschool football, our coach always told us not to sit in saunas or jacuzzis because it does something that is counter-productive for building muscle. Atleast thats what he said. I didnt always listen to him. He said something about the muscles expand because of the heat or something and then the next time you lift they are less likely to grow or more likely to injure or something... Was my football coach a crack addict or have any of you heard something of this sort?

Vehemence, I could see how it would dehydrate you and your muscles after a workout but he might of been a crack addict...

Here is a thought I was pondering today, if you drink some cell mass, then go to a sauna for 15-20 minutes and dehydrate your muscles would you muscles be able to absorbe more creatine from it?
