To Be or Not to Be Social - Friday, May 23, 2008 10:24 AM
[&o] Okay, well summer is on it's way and I have too many social functions to attend.  All of them provide the opportunity for me to indulge in my best chilled wine and hors d'euvres that are not on my clean eating menu.  So, what am I to do? Stay home and be antisocial, stair at others while they eat and drink marily? Can anyone make suggestions on what i can do to still have fun and not have people ask me why i'm not eating or drinking?

I'm driving/I ate before I came/Maybe later/No, thank you/I'm not a big fan of those/Not just at the moment, thanks

All are appropriate responses (best not to lie, though!)

Just make sure you say it with a smile.

They won't hold it against you. If they do, they're silly, and why would you go to silly people's parties anyway!

I personally make no excuses...all my friends and family know why I train and what I work towards, and now that I am a pro, I can say it's my JOB LOL!!  They do not ask and I do not make them feel bad for eating or drinking around me and honestly I am pretty numb to all of that anyway, my focus is on the company not the food :)  I bring my own and discretely eat it.

I DO share nutrition tips and such and people are always very interested in what I do to look this way but I don't browbeat people...and I think they appreciate it!  Likewise, they understand about the days when I am just too tired to do anything crazy...so at those times a movie or something low key works best.

I don't go out at all, why force yourself to if you don't want to?  I never used to go anywhere where alcohol was served on a consistent basis, you aren't a robot you don't have to drink if you don't want to.  Learn to say no and build confidence in yourself.

Remember your fitness goals and practice moderation at the snack trays.  You have to shut your mouth to diet properly, there is no way around that, so practicing your "no's" is essential.  This applies to me most especially and anyone else also.  Don't beat yourself up if you say yes sometimes and keep working towards the self-denial necessary for a great body.

Social or not I am able to stay on a regimine if I am on one at the time, I don't find social gatherings or others eating or drinking things around me make any diff so I don't really have any great advice, not to mention I am such a loner that social occasions are rare for me.
