Over the last few months of strict dieting I have gone from 215 pounds to around 175, possibly even less - the only thing is that I can't notice any real big visibile difference. This sounds strange doesn't it non? I guess this is because you lose it from all over your body in small areas rather then one particular area.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

A few things:

(1) Did you keep track of body part measurements?
(2) Did you keep track of % lean body mass/% body fat?
(3) Did you take a before picture?  (if so, you should put both a before and an after up)--often the change is so gradual that we don't perceive the difference, but others do.
(4) How are those pants fitting?

Well to be honest the only one I've really kept track of is that sometime I've got to drill a new hole in my belt because the trousers are nearly falling down at work. Good point - I need to take some measurements and compare some photos. I've probably lost more muscle then body fat.

Oh well I can do more pull ups with 40 pounds less.

weight lifting is really the only way to change your shape.....just losing fat will give you the same appearance just...smaller...

It could be because it's very hard to see your body changing, so unless you took picture or documented your measurements, you probably wont see much difference. Although in your case 40lbs, you should notice something.

Yea i agree with DA i used to be heavy and then i did no wieght lifting just ran and ate better and i got thinner, i didnt keep my same shape. working out just gives u a better shape. that remark about having the same shape is stupid, thats like saying if ur thin and u gain fat then u'll still be thin and keep the same shape but u'll just bigger

yeah you probably burned down alot of muscle so you don't notice alot of change.. i would recommend one of the other alternative methods for losing fat like raising your metabolism and building muscle.. etc

i meant that going on crash diets without weight lifting will result in keeping the same shape, as you will lose both muscle and fat in a similar proportion. That's what happened when i went on a crash diet and when my dad went on a crash diet, and could have been what happened.

Losing fat without gaining muscle will tend to make smaller and slimmer, but you're proprtions aren't going to change so much.  Wider shoulders(although technically you can't change the skeletal width, only the muscles of the deltoids) willl make a waist look smaller. To a point the opposite is true as well..but look at pictures of say a Sergio Oliva and think how different he'd look, even though he probably naturally had a slim waist,
without all that muscle on the upper body
