deciding to changeover from bodybuilding to powerlifting required alot of re-thinking training entirely........easier said than done

in a nutshell...........

bodybuiliding emphasis is all about how one looks and can skulpt their body to achieve a desired appearance

powerlifting, or strength training on the other hand is based all on how much one can lift in the 3 core lifts

One trains their chest with lots of bench pressing as well as flyes and dips to hit all parts of the pectoral muscle, top-btm-inner-outer-etc............with many sets and many reps

strength training for bench on the other hand is based on triceps strength, lat and back stability strength, bar speed and other factors

Strength training for Squats is based on glute/ham/lo back/ ab work, as well as bar speed, and perfected form

training the quads for size and shape is based on hitting them with many different exercises and from many angles with lots of reps and sets

Bodybuilding training is meant to achieve muscle hypertrophy (size) and often times one trains many many sets and reps often to failure.

Strength training generally does not mean going to failure, but rather having that little something left when you leave the gym

some body fat- 14-18% is ideal for strength trainers, most bodybuilders strive for single digit bf %

bar speed is an important factor for strength training, to be stronger you must become faster as well

I could go on and on here, but this is a good start Smile
