I havent managed to max on bench yet, i did try 155lbs a few days back but failed, then 145lbs failed and 135lbs failed even after doing 6 reps of it just 5 mins before-i wore myself out.

Id say my max now is along the 150-160lbs region, and yeah, im definitely improving on bench, and my chest has grown too, i guess working it loads of times a week agrees with me LOL.

dan reckon my lack of eating before gym, tiredness and the knowledge i only had 20 mins to workout put me in a situation where i didnt lift much?

Absolutely.  That is critical.

Also remember that sometimes a lack of stamina in the gym, and just being plain "pooped" can be strong signs of being dehydrated... You may want to significantly increase you water intake over the next few days. With all the food your eating, especially all the highly thermogenic protein, your body is workin overtime. You may need well over 100 ounces a day.
Eat...Lift....Sleep......Repeat

Enjoy the process.. but crave the goal.

Rightyo! Funny you mention that coop because once id posted my last update i drank 2 litres of water in an hour which i never usually do LOL.
I usually get through 3.5-4 litres of water a day everyday, i honestly dont know whether thats enough or not, but i do get worn out easily at the gym and can feel dehydrated a lot...I guess il up it by a litre, its not as if adding water i might not need will do anything bad, ill just piss it out LOL.

Should be working tris shoulders and legs today, im not expecting much from tris or shoulders in the way of strength, as theyre small muscles, but im hoping to be able to push out some nice 200lbs squats, which should be easy for a smitthy squat.

1x10 200lbs
1x10 200lbs

exercise 2:Barbell skull crushers
1x15 35lbs
1x10 45lbs
1x10 55lbs

exercise 3: shoulder press (barbell)
1x10 55lbs
1x10 65lbs
1x8   75lb

exercise 4:Close hand pushups (4 inches away from each other)
1x10 BW
1x10 BW
1x8   BW

exercise 5: Upright row (barbell)
1x10 45lbs
1x10 55lbs
1x8   65lbs

Im also weighing in nearly 155lbs right now hellz yeah!
Very happy with this workout, few little 5lbs strength gains here and there but nothing to write home about lol.

I have noticed a trend of me doing benchpress only for 2-3 sets and then trying the 135lbs a lot (as i never used to really be able to rep it lol) but im going to stop that monday and stick to a strict 8-10 rep range with 110-120lbs, and then on the friday next week try 115-125lbs and then hopefully the week after that can manage a good 8-10 reps at 135lbs, im only 2 reps off really.

Oh dear god i have a headache, but at least todays lifting went well.

exercise 1:Benchpress
90lbs x 15
110lbs x 12
135lbs x 5

exercise 2:superset benchpress and incline benchpress

Std:110lbs x 10
Inc:80lbs x 10
Std:110lbs x 8
Inc:80lbs x 10
Std:110lbs x 6
Inc:80lbs x 10

exercise 3:Preacher curls
55lbs x 12
66lbs x 10
66lbs x 10
77lbs x 6 partials
77lbs x 4 partials

By partial reps i mean lowered to 45 degrees, ive noticed its a lot easier to get that "squeeze" effect if you do this, and my biceps feel gooood.

exercise 4:Pullups/downs

Pullups
1x5: BW
Pulldowns
100lbs x 12
115lbs x 10
115lbs x 10
130lbs x 9

I also weighed in at a whopping 156lbs (holy ****!) but i dont know if this is food and water weight, some of it undoubtebly is.

EDIT:I forgot to put, after all this i tried out 135lbs again, with a twist.

I spent 2-3 minutes getting myself REAL psyched up and i did the reps faster than usual, but definitely controlled with no bouncing, I managed just about 7! the last one was dodgy though, took me 5-7 seconds to get past that midway point but it was worth it lol

I'm in the same place with my benching, just feeling frusterated... What ended up getting me some huge results was lowering the weight a bit and going ultra ultra wide... to the point in which my hands will hit the bench if they are wider....somewhere about 5-6 inches further out than shoulder level

I noticed that I had overdeveloped my inner pec area, and my outer pec area was a bit weaker....

After 2 weeks of going ultra wide I have filled out in this region quite amazingly... To the point I actually got a few stretch marks... And when moving back to regular shoulder width benches my weights went up tremendously...
Eat...Lift....Sleep......Repeat

Enjoy the process.. but crave the goal.

I have taken a wider grip since the start of this journal, and you are indeed correct coop-it puts much more strain onto the chest rather than triceps, and i am DEFINITELY reaping the rewards!

Couple of weeks time and im hoping to be able to put 135lbs into one of my proper training sets.

My chest feels dead now, and i know its going to be sore tommorow, yay! lol.

I also look more fuller, cant wait to get to 160lbs, il post pics up once i hit 170lbs

It is quite amazing on how much 3-6 inches of hand placement can make on something like that... Same thing with lat pulls.... I am thinking on the benching cycling the wife grip and closer grip everyother week... not sure how effective this will be..
Eat...Lift....Sleep......Repeat

Enjoy the process.. but crave the goal.

RE: The first and last successful weight gain journal - Monday, March 19, 2007 2:47 PM
It certainly is! It also explains why my flys are CONSIDERABLY higher than DUMBELL PRESSING!

sorry for the caps cant be arsed to bold it, and wanted dramatic effect! lol.

Lat pulldowns i always go widest grip possible.

Thing is 130lbs is quite a lot, there old machinery used ...erm...cycle chains kind of metal technology if that makes sense?

This made a lot of friction thus doing 90lbs was difficult

Now they have very tough plastic strips with 0 friction and its SHOT UP to 130lbs without any considerable training.

Im severely happy with my benchpress though, and im certainly not greedy, once i start 3-4x10 at 135lbs for bench i wont moan about my bench anymore, because i consider that damn good for me LOL.

Il welcome any more strength but i wont ****like i usually do about it anymore haha!
Shame about my squats though, theyve gone down, but i have neglected the legs this past month, even though theyve grown...maybe i measured wrong before lol.

It must be bench increasing month or something

Because even my gym partner who at christmas was doing 90lbs for 3 reps has suddenly gone from start of march doing 100lbs twice, to 110lbs 3 times, now nearly 4.

Hes 5'9.5" and weighs in at ~144lbs at 12-14% BF.

I am now officially the highest bencher in college, even more hilarious is i have reason to believe the 6'10" guy is on roids, and his max is still 135lbs

Its because he ONLY trains chest and sometimes arms, nothing else.
Shame, he has GREAT potential, oh well.

RE: The first and last successful weight gain journal - Wednesday, March 21, 2007 3:24 PM
Bad lifting day today for a rather unorthadox reason.
Basically, the guy that trained me up on legs before was there, but my god is he pushy, i was doing deads and decided to go on bench and see what was happening to my chest, i managed 8 reps on 135lbs this time wahoo! then i got my mate to try it, hes on 110lbs 3 times, so i thought he might be able to pull 135lbs out with a little help, he failed worse than i thought he would have done, and the guy started getting us doing 155-200lbs very wide grip while helping us.

I told him it was pointless because with his help it was just making the equivalent of doing 110-120lbs or whatever (as i cant to wide grip on 135lbs im talking SEVERE wide grip here.)
He disagreed and got mouthy and angry so i just said "no, sorry, not doing it" and just walked off, but yeah bit of a dick really.

I'll finish my workout tommorow.

This is all i managed unfortunately

1x15 132lbs
1x10 176lbs
1x10 200lbs
1x8  220lbs

OH AND, i met an old school person there today, its funny because he was branded "one of the toughest in the school" aged 15/16 and he was around 5'7" 110-120lbs max and hes now 5'7" 170lbs ish id say, and is pretty big, but yeah, since school hes become a lot better, if id talked to him them years ago hed have just mouthed me off, but since then it seems he grew up, quite a nice guy, going to australia for a year and stuff.

Lukcily in july il have my own gym, in my garage, so i wont have to deal with ass clownery like this anymore
