RE: The Dawg's Log - Monday, March 09, 2009 8:53 AM ( #64 )
Wife and I flew down to Florida Friday night, came back Sunday. Good: got some sun and spent some time with my parents. Bad: 1 1/2 hours in the sun, I'm crispy. Allergies are driving me crazy. Something was in the air. Coughing, sneezing, and could barely talk Sunday. Since I have been back its slowly clearing up.
Made for a tough morning at the gym, breathing wise.

Had a Temp of 101.3 last night. This morning was down to 99.8. Did not do Benching today. Got up to do it, But my head is swimming. Spent 30 mins in a hot shower, coughing up all kinds of stuff. Hopefully tomorrow I can get back into the Gym. I HATE missing days.

Thanks Jane.
But, I got a call late last night. His Kidneys are shutting down, just a matter of time now. All my kids are in cars headed to Florida. Got my sister a ticket down for Monday. Brother may go later in the week. My Dad and I had a good visit last weekend, so I'm in a good place. Doctors don't know what kind of time he has left. Could be a couple of days or weeks. It's one thing or another.........

RE: The Dawg's Log - Wednesday, April 01, 2009 1:39 PM ( #78 )
My father passed on the 24th. I drove up to Detroit and have been there for the past week. Finally home and trying to get back to normal. I have not been eating, sleeping, or in the gym for over a week.

My father died at 81 years 7 months old. Born in Howell Michigan in 1927, Graduated High School Class of 1945. Had a bad ear and was 4F for the World War II Draft. In 1951 was Drafted in the Army and sent to Korea as a Combat Engineer. Built Pusan and Kunsan Airbases. Came home from Korea in 1953 and went to work for General Motors in 1954. Married in 1958. Three Kids: 1959, 1961 (me) and 1963. Retired from GM in 1991. Lived in Florida until the 24th. Seven Grand kids and One Great Grand daughter. laughed right to the end. The day of his death a nurse was putting lotion on his back and behind, he told her " I'll give you 10 minutes to Knock that off" I will miss him.

RE: The Dawg's Log - Friday, April 10, 2009 5:58 PM ( #80 )
I've sat on my duff for 3 weeks now. I have not been to the gym since my father passed. Was a week up in Detroit, living out of a hotel and eating all kinds of garbage. I have been back about 10 days. I'm still eating somewhat unclean. I can't seem to get in the gym. My workout partner is on the beach this week, so no call to get me motivated.
All of this has to STOP! Tonight after work (2330 hours) I'm going to the gym. Going to do a full body light weight high rep workout to wake my a** up. I have been skirting Cardio for the last year. Thats going to stop! Time to put my feet to the pavement again. I like lifting heavy. But, I need to add more reps! I'm done screwing around and doing just enough to get by. Life is to short. I have been at 280 +/- 10 lbs for the last year. I'm just scared of losing muscle mass as I get smaller. If i do it correctly thats not going to happen. I will stop at 230 lbs. I hope my 18 inch arms are still with me when I get there. Hey, who knows maybe they will be 19 by then.
Look for drastic changes here in the next 3 months. Time to get my A** in gear. Heck, I got 2 years until 50....now or never Baby!

Oh, one more thing. A BIG THANKS to everyone here for giving me motivation during the good times and the bad. I appreciate it. Your a great bunch of people.

RE: The Dawg's Log - Saturday, April 11, 2009 12:53 AM ( #82 )
Thanks for the encouragement you two!

Got home at 2330 hours. Took two hours to talk myself onto going to the gym. Glad I went. Was partnerless and alone at this hour so I wanted to go lighter with Dumbells. Easier to drop if need be.

0140 hours
5 min eliptical warm up

Squats- Used the Straight bar on these. Had a squat rack to work with, set up the safety bars so I only drop so far if something happens. I did these without a weight belt.
115x10
125x10
135x10
Felt pretty good, so I pushed it
225x4 PR, since 1983
Didn't push it past 4. Back don't hurt. I feel no pain at all from doing these. Not bad for a Hyrniated disc.
I am going to get to 250, maybe 300 before summer is over. Back willing, my head is there though.

180x10
200x10

Weight before going to Detroit 276 lbs. This morning I am a Porky 293lbs. Going back to the old stomping grounds and eating the food that you can only get there did me in. Pizza joints, Super Daly Burgers, and 20 flavors of Softserve Ice Cream from Dairy Dans. It was good to see all of those places are still there. It was 1980 all over again, at a 17lb gain...OMG!

4/13 0430- Went for my first run today. Was planning to do 3 miles. About a mile into it the wind really started blowing. I was getting pelted by leaves, twigs and other tree garbage. Had to stop short of two miles and head home. Tree started falling around me. I counted four Big Trees. I think someones trying to tell me to stop Cardio...LOL

Went out to do Cardio again. Ran about three miles early in the morning. As I rounded a curve that goes up my street a small animal stepped out in the road. It was forward of the street light so I could not ID the thing. I thought: Great a Coyote, I'm tired , alone, and its headed right to me. I stopped running and stood still. As the animal got closer I saw spots on it. It was a small fawn...all alone. I crouched down and held my hand out. It walked up to within 8 inches of my hand, walked around me to my right, then ran off into the darkness. Maybe Cardio isn't so bad. Weird.......................

I can jump rope both feet off the ground at once. Never did learn how to skip it like you are running. It would be similar to watching Frankenstein jump rope...scary, really scary.
I run when its dark out so no one can see me.  I seem to be faster too. Reminds me of my younger days being chased through the alleys in Detroit. I don't see how far I need to go...that helps. More happens with nature during the night. During the day all I see are people and a loooong way to run. Daytime running is a mind F**k to me.

A bunch of guys (21 yrs olds) from a bar 6 doors down where outside posing infront of the doors of the gym. To funny. They didn't have much to say when I walked out pumped. Asked how old I was, when I told them they were like "Damn, I wouldn't f**k with you", made me laugh! See what too much beer can do to you...LOL. Have a great weekend eveyone.

RE: The Dawg's Log - Wednesday, April 22, 2009 12:33 PM ( #88 )
Saturday afternoon I helped my middle Daughter move into her new house. About 2600 sqft 4bdr/2 bath house. Had stairs to do moving furniture out, then Stairs moving things in. About 5 hours of lifting. Sure made a difference now that I workout. Lifted heavy stuff with ease. After my calve workout earlier, I was hurting Sunday morning though. Woke up walking like an old man of 95. Took half the day to stretch back out. Got to remember not to do calves when someone needs help moving....haha.

Talked with my workout partner. Said he was ready to get back in the gym. So I called him at 0700 (on Monday morning) to workout...no answer on two phones. So I went after work, alone again (Tuesday morning). Can't miss it.
