Teen Prohormone Use - Sunday, August 31, 2003 5:43 PM
I'm 16 years old and I have been lifting for about 2 years. I'm a boxer, and I want to gain as much strength as possible for this upcoming winter season. Due to the fact that I partake in a sport with weight classes, I would prefer that mass gain be minimal (I can gain up to 5 lbs of muscle) with optimal strength gain. I was thinking about using 1-AD since this seems to be the most commonly discussed pro-hormone. Ergopharm suggests that you take 1-2 capsules of 1-AD three times a day with meals. If I only take 1 capsule a day, would I still benefit from the pro-hormone? If so, should I take it before or after working out. What are my chances of hair loss (my father has some hair loss, so I may be predisposed), testicular shrinkage and stunted growth? I want to take some kind of a supplement to assist me in my strength gains - creatine didn't do ****!

Anyone know the answers??

TWIN-PEAK, you seem to be the most knowledgeable one here, feel like taking a crack at this?

Thanks,
Sam

I would not recommend prohormones to anyone under 18 years old... and in some states prohormones are illegal to sell to people under 17 (and sometimes illegal to any age).

If you are going to take one, 1-testosterone (1-AD) is a great product. I have taken it and noticed no long term side effects. The only problem I had was that I became very tired my first week while on it. To combat this, try not to eat any dairy products your first week. After that you should be ok.

It is also recommended to stack 1-testosterone with 4-androstenediol. The 4-diol will help combat some of the effects of 1-testosterone (like being tired) as well as increase your results while on the stack.

I would take 1 pill three times a day. Don't do anymore then that... but I also would not take it only once a day. If you want to ignore me and only take it once a day , then take it 1 hour before working out.

What are your chances for side effects? Probably close to nothing.. BUT... it depends on your genetics. We are all different, and while almost no one has problems with 1-testosterone... you may. Good luck and welcome to DB.

Around our age (im 15) you shouldnt need pro-hormones. Your own body's testosterone production would outperform pretty well anything you could take.

I'd be really leary about prohormone use at any age. I'd be especially so at 16.

There are no know effects thought to be worse, at your age, but still, PHs haven't been around that loong.

As well, someone who is not at or near their genetic potential would be better served waiting until they are.

They said, taking an oral PH once per day is worthless. You are looking to raise your exogenious hormone levels at a consitent rate throughout the day, throughout the cycle, so that protein synthesis is increased, nutrient partitioning is increaed and muscular hypertrophy is increased at an even level.

Any oral PH has a short half life so thrice daily is best. Remember, even levels.

Hair loss is a real possibility for those predisposed, as is the lethargy Kris mentioned. Testicular shrinkage is quite common as your endogenous test levels will be supressed. This is transient however.

If you are looking to increase strength with little weight increase, skip the 4-diol, eat at around maintenance level calories rather than go overboard, and train heavy, with low weights, and train explosively, since you box. Don't forget to stretch.

My $0.02

Anyone younger than 25 shouldn't even think about pro-hormone use. The cons definitely outweigh the pros. If your still popping zits, your test levels are already excedingly high. Why would anyone consider taking prohormones when all you're willing to gain is 5 lbs of muscle. I think you need to reanalyze your diet. You didn't mention your weight but I would venture to say that anyone under 185 should be able to add 5lbs of muscle in 6 months on diet alone.

At 16 years old, your boxing career hardly depends on how you perform during one season. Concentrate on building a foundation of "real" muscle before you jump into something you will most likely regret. Unless you are facing the man that killed your brother, its best left alone.

Wow, so many people saying NO to Prohormones, I find that intresting. I'm 17, and started taking them when I was 16. I started off with Test-250,Equibolan, and maxteron from Impact Nutrition, then I found that Tmm-100 was like the god of prohormones, I loved it and experienced muscle that didnt leave after i stopped use, even though it does stay in your system for a while, I never lost any muscle. The last prohormone stack I used was I think something from a place called ISS. That was a while ago. I havent been on anything but protien for the past 4 months, which is when I think I've gotten my biggest to tell you the truth. When it comes to sideeffects take it from someone who knows, there arent any except for acne, and its not even that bad, although my back did get pretty bad for like a week when I first started using them, but that pretty much left after a week, no problem. My bench was at 265, after one cycle on tmm-100, i was at 335, now having been off them for 4 months my bench is up to 365. There is only one bad thing about the prohormone industry, and that is price. If you want something that will work, your going to be paying a lot for it, also watch out for scammers. 1-AD is 1-Test, I took Test-250 which is the same thing, gave me a kick ass boost in strength, but no real size difference, as a former boxer I'll tell u strength is better than size, its better pack a strong punch then to be slow and unable to move. It seems like you've made up your mind to take 1-AD, so if you follow the instructions exactly on the bottle, and dont over-do them, you'll be fine. Basically all the muscle you gain on this product you will keep, maybe a little water rentention, but even that is so minimal its almost not worth mentioning. If you were a 16 year old punk who just wants to get big for like a month and then decide to stop lifting because of whatever, I'd say dont waste you time or money. But if you're like me, and are commited to lifting every day, 6 days a week for at least 3 or more hours, then by all means take them, but never quit, or you've wasted your time, your money, and more importantly your potential, which is the worst of anything to lose. Hope I helped.

Wow, so many people saying NO to Prohormones, I find that interesting.

Did you fully research them before taking them? And were you aware of the risks?

If you said yes to both.. well.. you probably do and did more then many.

The reason many people say no to them is

(1) Person asking is usually a beginner. Just starting out. If they cannot do a deadlift with good form, they have no reason to be using prohormones

(2) Without knowing the risks, it's not possible to make an informed choice

Prohormones are not like your Optimum protein. They are supplements that require some research. And they really are for the advanced athlete that has reached a potential and feels they want and need to go beyond.

Not debating the pros and cons. But I usually say no because the person who posts is uncertain of what they need to do to gain muscle in a nutritional aspect. In which case, they need to work on everything else before they start diving into supplements that are beyond the average OTC supplements.

This is why I usually say NO to prohormones.

Hi everyone out there

I dont know whether this is the correct forum for this? Or whether anyone out there can help. Let me explain!

I come from the Solihull area of England, I am employed as a Harm Reduction Specialist in the Borough of Solihull. One of my primary aims is to set up a needle/equipment exchange for drug users/steroid users in the area. I would appreciate any contact in the strictest of confidence from anyone who lives in the area or indeed anyone who may want to comment about this. Please be reassured that my only aim is to reduce the harm caused by improper use of equipment used in injecting, whether this may be as a result of a lack of knowledge or non availability of correct equipment. I have very little knowledge about the sport so go easy on me in respect of terms used.
What happens around the world (USA etc) regarding this.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks fellas

Regards
Brett

I can understand why people would say no to prohormone use, but seriously I would like to assume people would do the reasearch before they even think about taking them. When I started taking them, it was 2 years after I began to lift. I agree they are not substances for begginers. Oh yeah, and my bad, I had a typo, I'm in the gym for 6-8 hours, and I dont talk to people, that ruins my intensity level. I just lift, do as many exercises for whatever muscle I'm working that day, pull out an hour or so of cardio and AB work every day adding up to 2,000 crunches and about 1,000 of different repetitions with an 18 Lb medicine ball (russian twists..ect.). It takes alot of time, I want to make sure my body is in a **** load of pain when I wake up in the morning, otherwise I didnt have a good workout the day before, pain is my gague of how well I execuited my workout plan for that day.

Hi! Im 20 years old and so is my boyfriend and I wanted to check up on the things he is taking and the things that he is considering taking... For starters he just upped his protein intake fro 100g to 230 g .. He drinks a lot of water but I'm afraid that is too much. He intends to start taking some supplements soon. I dont have all of the names of the four he was considering but one of them was M-1T and Tribex 300? I did research on the M1t and i wasnt happy with what i discovered. Do prohormones convert into steroids in your body? He said he was going to take a 3 week cycle of M1t possibly and then an estrogen pill i believe.. He's actually very smart and I do trust that he has done the research but he has taken things in the past that have been pulled from the shelves or have effected his temper, etc. Could anyone tell me more? THaNK you!!!
-Lau

Oh also he does work out daily with one day off a week and he's been working out for about a year. Thanks again.!

Do prohormones convert into steroids in your body?

They convert to testosterone.

Steroids are more of like pure testosterone.. via dosage. Where pro-hormones are not dose dependent and rely on the body's process to do something with them.. which is convert.

Since you are are the right forum.. Welcome to DB! Up top there is a few FAQ's and must-reads. They will really help you out as well.

M-1T is some potent stuff. Tribex 300 and those type of herbal boosters don't get much respect. But M-1T has been talked about on this forum I believe.

thank you for the advice and insight... I'm not too educated on the topic althought im trying to become more well rounded. I just worry that he's going to mess up his liver by taking too high of a dosage of protein even though he has a sufficient water intake .. Another supplement he was considering i believe is called 4-ad? and another name like tribestin or something like that i could be wrong. im sorry if theyre wrong haha. i just started using this today so ill try and find wehre the right chats are but i think this is a really great site! thanks for everything!!
