Supplement Question
-
Wednesday, August 20, 2008 3:43 AM
Hi just some general advice needed. I've been taking normal Whey protein for about 3 weeks now and yes have probably gaines a few extra founds, nothing special though. So i've been reading into other supplements and wondered on the maximuscle website. Now my main aim is to gain wieght and muscle mass, obviously i know i have to be eating 5 meals a day (min) but out of these 2 supplements which would you recommend: 1. Maximuscle - Progain 2. Maximuscle - Cyclone I know Prograin's main aim is to gain weight and muscle mass, so im tempted to go for that, but on the other hand cyclone has creatine, which i'm also thinking of taking. So it's either cyclone on its own or a tub or progain and creatine... Thanks

Don't waste your money. Lift heavy and eat a lot. That's all you need.

SUPPs just aid you. diet will give you the results you desire.. but it's going to take longer than 3 weeks to gain large amounts of muscle. there is no MAGIC pill, or powder. just lots of food like brihead said, and heavy lifting.

we already told you.. hard heavy lifting, and lots of food. by the sounds of it you seem to portray the idea that there's some type of miracle pill that will reap the benefits of lean muscle without having to put in the hard work. <-- doesn't exist. eat a lot, and lift hard. once you get those 2 HUGE factors down, and desire to tweak your routine/results.. THIS is when you add in a supplement.

I know you gave me your opinion, i can read dude! But i am eating a lot, and i am lifting heavy, have been doing so for the past 3 months out of the 6 months training, but everyone else at my gym seems to think i need to take something to aid me and thats where i was told about whey protein, cyclone and progain, all i was asking you guys is which has the most benefits. Thanks for telling me that there's no miracle pill out there cause i would never have figured that out! im asking you guys a question cause this is a forum to get information, there's no need to try and make someone look stupid cause it just makes you look arrogant!

don't know anything about progain or cyclone. sorry. whey protein is good stuff. Optimum Nutrition has a very good 100% gold standard whey that I enjoy. And you can add extra stuff to it in a blender for extra calories if you need (ex-oatmeal, peanut butter, milk, etc...) didn't mean to come off as putting you down. i just got that vibe, that no matter what was said would be disregarded. that's why. My vote is you get a nice whey protein (which i consider food anyways), and add this in with a bulk diet. hope that helps. goodluck

Silanar, listen to Silverfox. He knows what he's talking about. You've been lifting for 6 months now, and only seriously been eating and liftin seriously for 3 of those months? Now keep that up, and keep working on increasing your lifts, and come back in 3 years. Heavy lifting + a lot of food + TIME & DEDICATION is how you get the real results. It doesn't happen overnight, and there is no miracle supplement that will do it for you. Seriously. The guys at your gym have no idea what they are talking about, and I feel bad for them because they probably waste their money on USELESS SUPPLEMENTS. If you want to take a supplement, take protien. That is the only supplement that is worth anything. In fact protien is an AMAZING supplement, because it allows you to get your daily protien requirements (which is essential) without having to eat tons and tons of meat every day. If you are able to get like 180 grams of protien per day then you don't even need to take protein, but if you're not then protien supplement comes in handy. Seriously dude, don't waste your money on this GARBAGE CRAP that supplement companies put out there. It does nothing but take your hard earned money out of your pocket and put it into the supplement companies pocket. Heavy lifting + lots of food from this day forward will give you EXACTLY what you are looking for.

standard disclaimer: "I'm new to this!" my2c - slow & steady wins the race. 1-2lb / week is what you want & is sustainable. Nothing more. Of course, everyone's body is different. All this hype about "gain 30lbs of lean muscle in 1 month!" is crap. 5-8 lbs is solid! Of course, maybe I'm just trying to justify my slow rate of gain! hahaha.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with gaining 1 - 2 lbs. per week IF YOU ACTUALLY ARE GAINING THAT MUCH WEIGHT PER WEEK. That's a good bulk. I know that many people seem to get scared once they start to gain a little bit of fat, so they end up on endless cycles of bulk, cut, bulk, cut, bulk, cut, etc... Gaining 1 - 2 lbs. per week and actually sticking with it plus constantly increasing your lifts would make you into quite a beast.

Brihead301 i totally understand you dude, and i actually do take advice given to me on here. Like i here something at the gym "do this, lift that" but i come on here to get a second opinion. I really do want to work hard and i will, cause it's just become a part of my life now, lifting 6 times a week! But just thought it might help me to take something, like as you said Protien, but didnt just want to dive out there and get any old thing, just wanted to know what brand's you guys use, which one are proven etc.

First off, you'd probably be better off doing a 3 day full-body routine, or even a 4 day upper/lower split, preferably the first one. With a 6 day routine, you just don't have enough recovery time, and recovery is KEY. Remember, you grow outside the gym, not in the gym. Just focus on getting the big lifts stronger, and your body will thank you. As for what type of protien. ON Gold Standard 100% whey is what I take. It's quality protien, it has several good tasting flavors, and it's pretty cheap ($46 USD for a 5 lb. tub).

I"ve been getting this: from costco for about $30. 27 gm of protein per serving, a mix of soy, whey & casein, comes in both vanilla & chocolate. Seems to be working for me.
