Well, on Monday i start summer conditioning for rugby...

Last night i took the first few tentative steps to getting into it - a mile jog just to see where i'm at.

First mistake - didn't warm up did i Smile

Never mind, got through it ok, albeit with slightly burning muscles that were telling me i was an idiot - i can cope with that lol...

Feel fine this morning, looking forward to testing next week - i may do it at the start of my second week, jsut so my body is slightly more ready for it...

I have also decided my legs and tarmac do not agree lol...so its grass running only from now on in - joy of joys

Just knocked out a good session. Pushed the body quite a bit, haven't sweated like that for ages - was good though. Tried some new stuff that i haven't done before and i felt it worked well. I'm pretty confident at the moment, and have plenty to aim for.

Just gotta get the ice on my left inside leg as it hurts like a bitch! Never mind - cardio tomorrow Smile

All i know about rugby is

1.Some 7ft rugby player here is pissing everyone off and decides to start fights everywhere, big ****ing bastard he is.
2.Some Kid in my college has been playing it for a year, does no weights, and has gained over 40lbs in weight, not fat, doesnt even eat a lot.

Bastard.

Llyod... Which program are you following? Im looking at some conditioning too. Im hoping to hit 210lbs and then im going to start - hopefully in about 6 weeks.

Are you going to follow any of the programs from the websites you PMed to me? If so, which ones?

Ive read through them all and some of them seem pretty full on - im not sure if im ready to dive head on into them yet but ill ease it in slowly.

All the best and keep updating us with your progress. Ill check back in and tell you what a wimp you are and how you are running like a girl (ill be your e-Coach!) jk Smile

Lol i need that kind of motivation haha

In my travels i recently found a book by Dan Luger, the England winger - and i have to say i'm impressed by it. It's called complete conditioning for rugby by Dan Luger and Paul Pook. There are programmes in there and i'm following one of them. It is pretty full on, 2 a day stuff - but there are other ones as well -

It introduces a new concept to me at least, which is functional training - doing stuff that directly relates to rugby. As such there is more emphasis on other aspects as opposed to weight lifting. Try and get a copy - I'll post my programme later as well as one of the less intensive ones - right now i hurt like a bitch and need an ice pack lol

Oooo did shoulder today - supersetted military press with shoulder step ups - was hard but i didn't push myself as much as i should have. Also did bent over raises super setted with some neck work as well as core stability.

Was ok actually - oh i said i was going to post some routines Smile my bad. I'll do it tonight i promise lol - right now i'm back involved with the ice pack - i seem to have bruised where i place the squat bar - doh!

OK here we go then, basically the programme i am on now at the moment...

Monday AM: Fuel Mix
Monday PM: Strength

Tuesday AM: Fuel Mix
Tuesday PM: Fuel Mix

Wednesday PM: Strength

Thursday AM: Speed and Agility
Thursday PM: Fuel Mix

Friday PM: Flexibility

Saturday AM: Fuel Mix
Saturday PM: Strength

Sunday: Fuel Mix

As you can see it's quite intensive and a lot of cardio. Fuel mix basically relates to anaerobic and aerobic energy and how you need them both for rugby - so i do a lot of different drills. Hard work at the mo lol...don't like it either but gotta be done!

Smile I'm a bad person -

I'm sorry coach - i had to do a few days work for my parents which entailed being away from training facilities in the back of beyond -

I'm still doing it - I'm still settin an example - haha - i managed to design and produce an entire website in the last 3 days - so i'm happy with that lol - anyone need any t-shirt mugs or promo items making let me know - shameless plug i know but hey - i worked hard lol!

Tomorrow is my leaving do at work, so that makes the weekend a write off, well Saturday anyway - am on track though, a few lbs heavier - just need to get a going with the fuel mix now

HAHAHAHA

You know i had a premonition you would be on here somehow haha

Anyway - old excuses of being busy with work etc etc - i have put on a few lbs, muscle and fat lol - not sure how many but am weighing tomorrow at the gym, so i can then really start the fuel mix stuff properly and concentrate on the power aspect and nailing my hamstrings

Conditioning is pretty much as is says on the tin lol - i am conditioning my body for the riggors of a rugby season - so this is weights and cardio etc - u play soccer right?

Running a mile as fast as you can is great - as part of a programme - You need to vary it with lots of different things, for example sprinting drills, agility drills, aerobic drills, anaerobic drills etc - there are so many components it is important to decide which ones you need to focus on, and then look at it again...
