I usually do full body routines mon wed fri. I'm going to be switching up to German Volume Training for 6 weeks. It;ll be the first time i ever do the GVT styled training. My goals are to gain weight and get as strong as i can. Currently i am 5'6 at 165lbs. I've been doing this full body workout for like 4 months and it's time for a 6 week substitution. Let me know what you think of the workout. Monday - chest and back bench press 10 - 10 incline flyes 3 - 12 Rows 10 - 10 chin ups 3 - 12 Wednesday - Legs and Abs Squats 10 - 10 Leg extension 3 - 12 SLDL 10 - 10 Legs curls 3 - 12 Friday - Shoulders and arms OH press 10 - 10 Incline curls 3 - 12 Dbell tricep ext 3 - 12 21;s - till failure.... Anybody wanting to share their own experience with GVT training is also greatly appreciated. Thanks. paYce !!

My understanding is that GVT is more for hypertrophy than strength building. You might even loose a little absolute strength meanwhile. But that amount of volume per body part in a session will certainly be a shock to the body after doing a full body-a-day routine.

I tried GVT on my chest day a few weeks back. I felt that it was more suitable for intermediate or advanced lifters. I did not feel the total exhaustion in chest muscle group. Just overall loss of energy. But the Routine went through as predicted by the article in t-nation. after the 5th set, i have trouble pushing to 10 reps.

Your goals are to get as strong as possible and gain size. Gaining size without increasing strength happens in small amounts and lasts only shortly. To continue gaining size you need to be able to load greater loads of tension to the muscles. After doing the full body routine, I think the gains in 10 or so weeks from GVT will only be small compared to doing a pure strength building routine. Up your strength in the basic moves in squats, deads, bench, OH press and row using something like the Texas Method for example and you will be better primed for continuous size building.

No it sounds like it sucks..just sayin. Not sayin it hasn't worked, but it just looks like an injury waiting to happen.
Goals by end of 2009: Bench 205 Squat 255 ATG Squat Clean 185 "There is no elevator to success, you must take the stairs."
