I stretch after not before.

Somewhat related to this is foam rolling, look into that. I don't do it consistently but i think i will soon.

Don't stretch before working out, it's been proven to be potentially dangerous. Warm-up pre-workout, stretch-post workout.

MVP,
Wouldn't you agree?:  After your pre-workout cardio equipment warmup (5-10 min treadmill, bike, xtrainer, rower, etc.) make sure to do ramping warmup sets before working sets prior to work on each muscle group.  The necessity for slow ramping warmups diminishes if the same muscle group has been used on a previous exercise.

I never do pre-workout cardio, ever. If you do cardio before workout you can deprive muscle of it's glycogen, resulting in your workouts suffering. On the other hand, a slight warm up to elevate the heart - like 5 minutes on the elyptical for a fit individual wouuld serve as effectve; me personally, not so much. 5 minutes on the elyptical for me would result in fainting .

I always recommend ramping sets, specifically for beginners. I recommend 3 x 5 total working sets with 2 sets of warm-up. The first set always being the bar, although I don't count that as a warm-up personally. The following set being 50% of the weight intended to be used, the following set being either 75% or 80% of the resistance that is being planned to use, then using you 3 x 5 working set.

On the contrary though I normally don't complicate things like that myself. Although it may not be as effective in terms of specific warm ups, I just go to the weight room and throw up the bar a few times, throw on the 45's on each side, throw up some reps until I feel warm, then throw a 25 on with that, squeeze out a few reps, then just put two 45's on each side and do my set. That's how I've always done it personally.
