Strength Split?
-
Wednesday, July 22, 2009 1:27 AM
( #1 )
Ok so I have just started the trend of getting shredded on CKD. Recently I have been using the following workout: Workout A Squats Bench BB Row Workout B Deadlift OH Press Pull-up These are all 3x5 The problem I have is that I'm finding it impossible to recover from my monday workout to do those bodyparts again on a wednesday. So basically I want your opinions on whether a split would be a good idea and could I gain/keep strength on it? I have thought of maybe doing one of the movents above each day like: Mon - Squat Tue - BB Row Wed - Bench Thu - Deadlift Fri - OH Press Sat - Pull-up Probably add in some extra light weight exercise to each workout But I don't think that looks very good, so I'm hoping you guys can jump in with some ideas :) Cheers

One movement per day? I did something like that with a pyramid and responded good, it was like this. Monday- Squat: 1X8, 1X5, 1X3, 3X10 Tuesday- Flat Bench: 1X8, 1X5, 1X3, 3X10/Weighted Dips: 1X8, 1X5, 1X3, 3X10 Wednesday- Deadlift: 1X8, 1X5, 1X3, 3X10/Pullup: 1X8, 1X5, 1X3, 3X10 Thursday- Press: 1X8, 1X5, 1X3, 3X10/BO LATERAL RAISE: 3X12 Friday: BB Row: 1X8, 1X5, 1X3, 3X10/Barbell Curl: 3X10 A lot of volume for the regular movements, I progressed in bodyweight, strength, and hypertrophy phenomenally but due to the load of volume only did the program for eight weeks before taking a ten day break. Edit:- On the other hand, you could do what true beginner gave you, awesome routine.

Cheers guys for the fast replies!! I think I'm gonna try the 5 day split, how would you go about what weight to use and how to increase? Or should I just get a feel for it and go from there?

1X8 to be with about 75% of your 1RM, which if you're not good with calculations is your 10RM. So if your 1RM on bench press is 250, 75% or 10RM is 187.5lbs. 1X5 to be about 80% of your 1RM, which with a 10RM of 185 you would work 5 reps with 200lbs. 1X3 to be with 5lbs more than your 1X5, so it would be around 1X5 with 205lbs or 215 if you feel like you could do it. Then you would finish the program with either 1X10 or 3X10 with depended upon strength - 135, 185, or 225, although this would rarely increase. Just the way I did it.

Not trying to argue or anything, just out of curiosity, why do you guys would want to train one exercise per day?

Why don't you try a 4-day split like: Day 1 - squat + assistance Day 2 - Bench + assistance Day 3 - Dealift + assistance Day 4 - OH press + assistance You're alternating upper and lower first off. The main lift of the day, you could do with whatever rep range you want (3x5 or whatever). For assistance, you can just pick 2 or 3 exercises related to the main lift.

Not trying to argue or anything, just out of curiosity, why do you guys would want to train one exercise per day? I trained one exercise per day due to ****ty endurance and I thought it was more productive to just add volume to a bench press instead of incorporating a fly, silly me. The routine you posted true beginner is the one I'd recommend before any other. I love the s*** out of push/pull/legs.

trubeginner Not trying to argue or anything, just out of curiosity, why do you guys would want to train one exercise per day? Because I'm finding it difficult to recover from the previous workout in time to do the next one and improve on lifts And I don't quite understand the workout you posted trub. That also looks to me as if your training one a muscle once a week except the legs. Which in MVP's is also worked more than once.

ive been on the ckd for a while and i've been doing an upper lower split and im able to recover with only a day rest. I alternate a light and heavy day for legs and i do a DC routine for the upper body. I'd recommend looking into a DC. so far i've had great results. all my lifts have gone up significantly for the short period i've been on it
Goals: -Find more time to get to the gym..
