Strange pain - Wednesday, August 10, 2005 12:26 PM
Hey guys, I was curious if anyone knew what was up with this pain im having. I just started working out again. I am 27 yrs old 176 lbs 5'11".

I wanted to start working with a trainer at my gym to get off on the right foot, with the education and proper form. They pissed me off by not returning my calls to setup a meeting time and being less than enthusiastic that I only could afford to pay for 6 sessions. So I basically decided to work out on my own with information from the internet.

Yesterday I did 3 sets of 45lb dumbbell flys... then moved to the machines (because I dont feel I am totally ready for free weights, also I dont have a parter / spotter.) There I did 3 sets of 130-140lbs bench presses. I then moved on to 3 sets of 90lb military presses.

Today I am not sore at all but I have a centralized quarter sized pain on my right pec. Its above the nipple and closer to the center of the chest. It doesnt seem like a sore muscle because it hurts whether im moving or not. Its the only spot with pain and I wince everytime because the pain hurts in such a strange way.

P.S. I havent worked out since Friday of last week. Yesterday was supposed to be the first day of my own training.

i'm not expert but i don't think the pain you're having is from the things you did at the gym cause after looking at the workouts you did, i don't see what could've cause it but i might be wrong.

did you feel like you wre pushing it to the limit when doing the bench press?

Actually yes, I was trying to max out on the bench press. Today ( 2 days later) the pain is still there but not as severe. I asked a friend he said "I hope you didnt tear anything."

Yea, dude your new to working out you gunna be VERY sore.  I remember when i started working out, i felt every muscle in my body.  I wanted to quit, but i didnt, so you can go back.  Your fine didnt pull any muscle at all, you muscles are just repairing themselves.  But you should feel pain every time you workout(tons of pain) for 2 or so weeks, thanthe pain is just mild.  and usually goes away in a day.
