Steam Room/ Sauna - Thursday, July 03, 2008 9:57 AM
i have a question for you guys. is sitting in the steam room or sauna good for you after your workout? because i love to do it for about 10-15 mins after a good lift, it relaxes ur muscles and makes you feel sooo good. i was just wondering if there are any negative things that can come from this.. thanks

Hey, if it feels good, go for it.  It definately won't hurt.

when i was a trainer at a gym in vegas, there was a guy that sat in the sauna after his workout.  came out, jumped on the scale...boom, he died.  right there in the locker room.  don't go diein on anybody.

I read a new study and they're sayin that going in saunas makes your body release small amounts of GH. Whether its true or not I still love going in them

Any reason why?
I had posted a similar question a few months ago about the sauna and creatine i got a respone saying since the purpose of creatine is water retention and the saund pulls water out of the body via sweat it might have some affect on the liver

Because regardless of whether your on creatine or not, if you sweat your going to dehydrate if your not putting anything back in.

Yes creatine needs the water in your muscles, but that wouldnt be what would cause cramps/dehydration...it would be the lack of water/minerals itself.

There have been enough studys done to show that creatine is not the cause.

Perhaps not, but he asked if there was any negative things that could occur.  I shared a story of a guy who seemed healthy during his workout (the fact he was there working out is obviously better than 90% of people in general)...sat in the sauna...came out...and died.  was it triggered by the sauna?  who knows...but no one ever told me - one of the people performing cpr - that it wasn't related.  therefore, it obviously poses a potential risk for certain people. I don't know the original poster from adam - so i shared my two cents.
