Starting to cut soon! Questions! - Monday, June 09, 2008 6:05 AM
Alrighty, so I'm hovering around 75-76kg (165-167.2lb) for the time being, and it is the heaviest I have ever been.

During these days, I want to make the best out of my bulking by trying to gain a few couple pounds, and then 2 weeks from now, I MIGHT want to cut.

So, the plan will be a 4-5 week cutting phase, and I want to get to around 154lb.

Please give me some crucial pointers as far as cutting is concerned. It can be anything from diet to training.

BTW, I plan to do cardio every day during the cut. Is that good?

I don't train body parts these days... I train basic compound exercises...

Few important things...

Make sure you figure out the cals you need
Watch high GI carbs
Consider HIIT cardio

That's off the top of my head.  As far as lifting, do whatever you want.  There's no real need to do anything specific lifting-wise while you are cutting.

a few things that come to mind:

dont cut calories too drastic or add tons of cardio up front or youll plateau quickly or have to cut too low or add too much cardio to keep going.

find what youre eating now, cut back from that, keep protein high, cut carbs mainly, then fats but make sure you are still eating healthy fats

if you arent doing much cardio now, i woulnt say to just jump to everyday id start with like 3-4 then progress as needed, same goes with cutting calories, start moderate and leave room for more cutting, etc.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Another question is, what should I have after dinner? I mean, somewhere around 9pm?
I'm thinking of hitting some amino tablets.

What about before bed?Milk has simple sugars in it, and I definitely do not have the budget to purchase a casein powder.

cottage cheese is always an option, if you dont want that, some sort of lean meat like chicken or turkey is also good, perhaps some almonds or other healthy fat as well.

Isn't that cottage cheese is high in sugar?

Are you talking about the night meal or before bed meal?

i wouldnt call a few grams high in sugar, but it has a few yeah

pretty sure i saw somewhere that meats like chicken and turkey's protein are almost as slow digesting as casein, so i mean if you dont want cottage cheese because it has a bit of sugar and cant afford casein, then yeah have lean meat, thats the alternative. milk has more sugar and less protein than cottage cheese.

im talking about before bed, an hour or so before or whenever ur last meal is, i like the almonds for healthy fats at that time, not a ton but say 1/2 oz or less. fats keep test levels up, cant tell u how much doing that would actually do tho. by no means do u need to have that tho.

Alright, I am thinking of giving lean meats a try later.

About the almonds, I am not quite sure. Here, almonds are very expensive, and not easy to find. Can I substitute the good fats with fish oil?

I buy almonds in bulk from BJ's.  I think it's about $10 for 10 cups of the raw unsalted almonds.  They aren't even in the nuts section, but with the baking goods haha.  If you have a membership to a warehouse like Sam's, Costco, etc or know someone who does, get them from there.

Haha, bro. I live down here in Singapore / Indonesia, depending on the timing. For the next two months I will be living in Indonesia.

Almonds are expensive here, and in Singapore.

So, do you think I can substitute it with fish oil?

BTW, thanks guys.

Take fish oil regardless, and substitute almonds with any nut or nut butter if you can.
