Hey to all - I'm 19 and have been fairly good on working out 3 times a week, nothing too intense with mainly just protein powder, however this semester (starting Jan. 22) I'm commited and serious about being diciplined in transforming my body into a bigger more cut body. I recently just bought supplements that so far have proven through other forums to be working really well for people the following: 5 lb. - Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Protein Powder (Cookies N' Creme) 2 lb. - Gaspari Nutrition SuperPump250 (Orange) 2.84 lb. - Gaspari Nutrition SizeOn (Arctic Ice) 180 Tab. - GNC Mega Men Sport Multi-Vit I can obviously read the labels to see when the ideal time to take each of the supplements, but does anyone have general personal input on when to take the products (training days/non-train. days)? with what? how much? etc. Again I'm not so much a beginner because I have had a consistent workout schedule, but now I am someone who is finally concentrated and determined to make my body look awsome no matter what! Tips and Suggestions would be great because all my knowledge and research on bodybuilding comes from experienced people like you and websites here and there. Thanks guys! Hope you can help me out. And sorry for the long speech!

I can't really advise with respect to supplements. The only supplement that I use is whey isolate. If you need help with anything else, I'm more than happy to share anything that I've learned from my personal experience. P.S. -- You know, I'm sure, that "supplements" are accessory add-ons. They are generally beneficial after addressing base nutritional and training concerns. - What style of exercise program have you adopted?
- What kind of nutritional regimen are you following?

When I first started I had 12 inch arms, after 5 years of hard hard training they where 16 inch armsat 10 years they where 18 inchs.... now after having a few years off, I have 23 inch arms. By the way, I was happy with my 140lb preacher curl yesterday for 6 reps. What I am saying is what I have learnt along the way is you will do lots of different things, try lots of different things, and eat lots of stupid stuff. The thing with suppliments is they have false hope, a lot of supplements look, sound, and even smell great. After going through a nutrient drug factory around year 6 years ago, I realised that some of the tablets you eat are nothing more than placebo's. The actual ingredient is actually mixed with base powder... mixed with base powder, and squeezed into a tablet form. I later learnt how a lot of muscle mass, that was commercially sold is created... is created. Dollarmite is one of the main ingredients for a base mix in a LOT of suppliment drinks. You could buy this product for around $30 per 20kgs at a produce store and sprinkle it around your yard if you want. Egg white powder is great, in 100% form... but I doubt you would like the cost of it... it too is mixed with base powders, maybe 1000 / 1 mix. There are lots of base substances... hell, cardboard boxes have limited nutrients but grind up very nice. A lot of dry dog food is mostly rubber compound as the base.. great eh? woof ... wait until you start looking into colouring, flavours, and other crap. Yeah, if your serious I guess you will right? Carefull of the products you do purchase, its cheaper to buy the base product and make them yourself.... really!!! I say save your $120 per week on suppliments, get some good food... lots of rest, train hard and smart. Another thing you have to think about, is what your trying to suppliment. - sleep / recouperation - amino acids - proteins - minerals - vitamins - testosterone - food / calories - carbohydrates - nutrients - time Another thing to watch when dealing with suppliment are the constant trips to your doctor to monitor you blood sugar levels, colesterol levels, and heart rate levels. I find a good heart rate around 65 - 70 standard, I din't feel comfortable around 55 - 60, or 130 exerted, with a colesterol of around 3.8. But overall... the guys that say they rock... also change their diets. Some don't even do weights, they just sell the stuff for profit... thats their livlihood.

Besides the whey protein, creatine and multi vitamins you already have, I would reccommend... Glutamine MRP's (not entirely necessary but convienet) This is a very good stack which doesnt contain any "gimmick" type products. It's always best to buy quality from well known brands. This way you can cut out the chances of buying products that are little more than placebos. Ive also started taking a joint care product from the chemists boots in the UK which seems to be working well! Theres a more powerful version available from AST and a few other good suppliers.

ORIGINAL: MrBafner Another thing you have to think about, is what your trying to suppliment. - sleep / recouperation - amino acids - proteins - minerals - vitamins - testosterone - food / calories - carbohydrates - nutrients - time Couldn't agree more. Supplement's are that extra 2% of gains you will see, if all the stuff listed here is perfect. So basically, if you are taking supplements and not looking thinking about what you are supplementing you are wasting your money. Lots of people take supplements and have great success, but that's because they're already at a level nearing or at peak physical condition. At that point, they've perfected their nutrition and exercise regimen, so the supplements work. I take NO Xplode and Cellmass, along with ON protein. I probably don't need it, except for the protein. Protein is just food, so it's all good. Want to know the best thing I've learned? Pre and Post Workout Nutrition! As far as I'm concerned, nutrition is far and away the most important part of working out. One, however, that I would reccommend even for a beginner is BCAA powder by any reputable manufacturer. In fact, i just saw in an ad that Mega Men Sport multi-v has BCAAs in it. I don't know how much or when you take the vitamin, but it can't hurt. They are essential, however, around the times you are working out. BCAAs are found in ON whey protein as well, at about 5g per scoop, but sometimes you just want the anti-catabolic affects of the branched chain amino acids without having to drink a protein shake before and after your light cardio workout . I admire your dedication and wish you a ton of luck. Just keep reading on here and you'll find everything you want to know. Just remember that supplements are called that for a reason - they are an addition to your nutrition.
