Starting to bulk--is cardio actually hurting me?

I cleaned up my diet which consisted of no more fast food/soda and I also started running. I lost about 20 pounds in the last two months, roughly (from about 160 to 140 lbs). At first I just wanted to become healthier, but I'm now more interested in building muscle. I've always enjoyed running, but some say this will negatively affect my muscle growth. So should I stop my cardio until I'm done bulking (specifically right after I wake up in the morning...before I eat anything)? Also I made it a habit of not eatting 3-4 hours before going to bed...should I stop this as well? Thanks in advance.

Steady state cardio 10-20 minutes after you lift, BCAA's prior to. If you have to run, do it on the weekends in the morning before breakfast or something. Protein and fat meal before bed.

I did some more digging in this forum and found: http://www.discussbodyb...ss-m41508-p2.aspx. All the information I've gathered seems to contradict each other. From "Don't do cardio it burns up muscle," to "do run it increases blood flow to your muscles" ( http://www.bodybuilding...ter_misc.asp?newsId=61), etc. It's frustrating not knowing what to do and if most of my time and energy is spent in vein. From what I gathered so far, as long as I truly eat enough (especially calorie and protein wise) to support both, lifting and running, I shouldn't lose muscle and hopefully I can keep my heart healthy and increase my blood flow.

Just don't overdo the cardio in terms of length, be smart about it, plus what perry said about BCAAs and before bed protein to spare muscle.

Cardio during bulking is fine, cardiovascular exercise allows the bodys vital organs to work more efficiently. But if your goal is to gain weight, you'll need to cover the lost calories. For example if your calorie requirements to gain weight are 3100 calories, you'd need to cover about 3300 calories to make up for the 200 or so calories (depended upon the cardio) during the day.

The replies are much appreciated guys. I'll do my cardio in moderation, I'm picking up some BCAAs, and I'll be sure to cover the calories used.

Definitely do it in moderation. Do not do cardio too much especially if you plan to gain weight,
