I have read and read and read, now my eyes are blearing!  There is so much conflicting info...I'm confused!

I'm 5'7 3/4", 44 year old Caucasian female.  I'm fat, I have always been fat, now I want to leave my size 3x to the womens shelter as I climb into a single digit size.  290lbs pear shaped and 54% bodyfat according to my Tanita scale.  (Diagnosed as Diabetic but currently diet controlled, by South Beach.  And I have no lower teeth.)

Now I want something different, so I know I must do something different!
I don't want to undermine my efforts or sabotage myself either....
So...here are some of the questions...
Do I walk on my treadmill for an hour or for 15 min?  Do I walk like I have a purpose or like I'm very late to a meeting?  I do not have access to a gym (not at this weight...ha! not again!) but I do have a Total gym Pro that I bought for hubby, used exactly once!
Do I walk first or do I "total gym" first?
I'm not big on pasta, love Jasmine rice, breadmachine sourdough bread, pumpernickel and whole grain homemade bread.  Chewing is a new challenge for me as I save up the money to have a lower denture fitted and "done" for me.
Love tuna, not wild on chocolate, switched to lipton tea from diet soda.
I bought DietPower and like it a lot.  I will use it as well to get me to my goal.
My goal....my end goal.....to have my husband drool over me like he used to when I was a size 18....instead of just a peck on the cheek and " 'night!"
I'm a miserable married woman who wants a dramatic change!
Warmest regards if you got this far!
Joanne

Well most info is relative to an individuals goals and needs which can vary so hence the info varies and confusion!  I will help all I can.

Key thing to know is patience, if you have had weight issues for a long time then it can take some time for the body to cooperate but in many cases the if you are very heavy and are consistent with small changes progressively then you are guaranteed results!!  Sounds to me like you are ready to be serious and alot what you need toward healthier eating and training time within your lifestyle!!

You can do so much with what you have!!!!  Lets get you started.
First you have to tell me what youa re doing right now with  your diet nad training and we can go from there.
Do I walk first or do I "total gym" first?
I would do a warm up walking 15 mins on flat incline but briskly, like your late for a meeting which is a high end, money meeting!!  Break a sweat!  Then do your gym exercises, 6-8 depending on how you break it down then end with your bulk of cardio and keep it intense until the last 10 mins where you want to cool it down and bring heart rate down slowly and on days you just do cardio / no total gym then dobjust an hour or so of straight cardio, catch  up on reading or while you watch a show you like.  Try very brisk then back off a min then brisk and then back off a min and repeat this for an hour.

I'm not big on pasta, love Jasmine rice, breadmachine sourdough bread, pumpernickel and whole grain homemade bread.  Chewing is a new challenge for me as I save up the money to have a lower denture fitted and "done" for me.
How about you save the breads for weekends only, but not binging ether......use the rice and some yam or potato for your starch during the week with the bulk of carb being fibrous greens.....peas, carrots and legums are also starchy carbs.
Love tuna, not wild on chocolate, switched to lipton tea from diet soda.
Make sure you get 200gm protein per day, broken up over the day, dry cottage cheese, fish and poultry, plus protein shakes are a good way to do this, oh and egg whites.
Okay Joanne, you ready???  Lets get you going on these suggestions and have you check in, maybe blog your diet at fitday and log your training so when I want to know you can cut and paste it here.....this way I can help you along!

Thank you for your response.  Sorry I took so long to get back to you....

I have been dealing with some nastiness, (severe nausea and lots of #2, back pain, cramps...sorry if TMI).

I am under a Dr.'s care, and hopefully this will be over soon.  And as soon as it is, you bet I will be anxious to start!!

MMmmmppphhh!  gotta go make another deposit from the north end.

I hear ya about too much info, a lot of it conflicting.  You got some good advice here.  The other thing to do is to hire a Personal Trainer to get you started.  One that is smart.  One who knows how to adjust parameters by analyzing your responses . . .
