Squats and appetite increase

I don't know if it is just a coincidence but ever since starting the 20 rep squat program, I have been able to eat A LOT more and I am always hungry. Is there any way that squats help appetite?

I'm only drinking a half a gallon or so. My mom refuses to buy 7 gallons of milk. I am eating a lot though. I just got done with 20oz of steak, loaded baked potato, rye bread and butter, and some parts of cheese fries and a bloomin' onion. We went to Outback. I could probably go for a PB sandwich right now.

I miss never being hungry. Only have that when I am seriously bulking, 2+ lbs a week, so about my 5th month, 2 and a half thousand calories from some milk is so tempting. Anyways though perry, I experience extreme hunger and need a whole lot of extra food after a serious session of squats, I also almost always come in to my next training session after my heavy squat day 2 lbs heavier. 20 rep squats would probably amplify this as total volume is pretty insane, 300 lbs for 20 reps is 6000 lbs lifted, and squats you have to move the weight pretty far, total work done is really high, plus the extra hormones probably make you even more hungry.

damn that was probably a good 2,000 calories at outback, lol. I always get the salmon and broccoli at outback...you have to watch a lot of their ****. Those cheese fries and blooming onions are loaded with sat fat, calories and sodium.

I have been trying to find how much GH is released when squatting or at least holding heavy weight on your spine, but no success. Any ideas?

I tried to find studies about it back when I had that discussion with MVP about which released more GH squats or Deads. Not to get back into it, but I think squats trump here because of the greater range of motion and mechanics involved, but also because your holding that weight on your spine, and your body has to hold it there, perhaps its even primal instincts kicking in and the thought of releasing more GH as to grow more muscle to not get crushed under the weight is taking place. At any rate, I havent found anything in numbers online...but maybe im not looking at the right sources. If you or anyone else can find something on the subject, please let me know!

Squats are an exercise intended to increase muscle mass. So that will increase metabolism, which is the rate your body uses energy...when that increases...so does your appetite. So yeah, I've gotten increased appetite from resistance training. It's extremely noticeable when you begin training.

Afterwards you want the RotoRooter man to come in and snake your arteries out after that. Then I'd rather take a nap than eat the huge steak and stuffed potato that's on the way. But I manage to eat those too! Now I want to go to Outback! Oh, and I know what you mean about starving: Every 2 hours it's as if I haven't eaten for a day! Quite annoying! A glass of milk is my emergency solution.

Do you guys enjoy making me hungry? I didn't think you lean ass guys like N$ and JMBS enjoyed eating out. I start a job at Papa Johns next week, they let you take home the left over pizza the guy said...so looks like this is going to be one hell of a difficult cutting phase LOL.

I worked at McDonald's for like 5 years. I probably pounded down 3,000 calories of high fat, high sodium, processed food every day I worked there. I was a good Chicken McNugget sneak back on grill! Never gained a pound. Joy of being an ecto. Don't know what deadly damage I did in those years, but they were memorable. ;)

I eat out a bit especially at work, and I hate all these nasty little fast food places. I do enjoy a high quality burger with something like mounds of pastrami on it. I like other good fried foods, I just hate low quality food. I cook some greasy stuff myself but the difference is I use olive oil heavily or butter sparingly, and other whole items and avoid unhealthy things like hydrogenated oils and HFCS. I'm not afraid of fat!

At any rate, I havent found anything in numbers online...but maybe im not looking at the right sources. If you or anyone else can find something on the subject, please let me know! In a quick search, it doesnt appear that a direct comparison has been made between the two. Interestingly for you though is that in general, routines stressing a large muscle mass with high volume, moderate to high in intensity, using short rest intervals produce the greatest acute hormonal elevations (e.g. testosterone, GH and the catabolic hormone cortisol) compared with low-volume, high-intensity routines using long rest intervals. It appears from one study that, probably due to the mechanics of the squat, high repetitions (~25) produced greatest significant increases in GH. In comparison to the leg press, which is more anatomical stressing, 10 reps seemed enough for optimal for GH response [1]. I've seen a deadlift version of the 20 reps squat routine. But I understand that 20 reps with deadlifts has to be done with pauses, letting go of the weight and taking ~5 deep breaths between each rep? You would be missing out on all the isometric stress on the trunk having to hold a bar for the entire duration of the 20 rep set as in squats. I think time under tension would be a little more for squats. Plus, the ability to breath whilst still under tension must also elicit some super respiratory adaptations. Thank you for posting that Spenny. Yeah I agree time under tension would be greater due to the pauses without any kind of stress of the weight like squats on your body. The weight would be heavier, so I wonder how it all compares in the big picture. I really wish I could find a study on squats vs deadlifts in regards to GH levels. Mvp- im not that lean, lol. Sometimes I am forced to go out to restaurants to eat, the trick is to find the right things there to eat. And if all else fails get a salad with the dressing on the side and dip your fork in it instead of dumping it on the salad.
