Sprinting>jogging

A friend of mine who has been lifting for quite a while, told me that while cutting, sprinting helps burn fat and keep muscle much better than jogging. Is this true? Dan?

jogging gets your heart rate up to a certain beats per minute until your done jogging but in sprinting your heart rate goes up for a for however long your sprinting than you take a rest so your bpm drops then you go back into sprint so your your body never reaches a constant heart rate therefore faster fat burning hope i explained that okay that basicly what happens \ im sure dan could probably explain it better though im no expert

I am no expert but I can contribute this. I was in cross country track in high school, and all the cross country kids were skinny as hell, the sprinters could be pretty damn big and it seemed to make them faster. So I have always associated long distance running and jogging with small size. Plus I have recently heard from many sources that sprinting is better for lifters than jogging (thats secondhand tho, so dont put too much faith in it).

I have firsthand experience with this. I do the 100m and 200m for my schools varisty track team and i can easily say i am the most muscular sprinter in the entire conference. When starting trakc, i was surprised that i wasn't losing any muscle mass at all, and my coach told me unlike distance runners, it is more beneficial for sprinters to be muscular and it is much easier for them to remain that way. Make sure you keep lifting if u do sprint and make sure u still take in alot of protein and even creatine, otherwise you will begin to lose muscle mass and get smaller, which happened to me at the end of last years season. Good luck with everything

thanks for the replys. It does seem to me that sprinters are very muscular and lean, while distance runners are scrawny and small, like you said.
