South Beach Diet - 6/2/2004 12:59:23 AM

Anyone try working out while on any of these low-carb diets at all? I was just wondering because I'm on the South Beach Diet right now myself and I can say I've lost a considerable amount of strength while on this diet.

For example:

Before SBD (South Beach Diet):

Bench: 225lbs - 10, 10, 8

During SBD:

Bench: 225lbs - 10, 7, 4

My goal was to be able to do 3 sets of 225lbs at 10 reps a set before switching to a heavy lifting phase. I also just got done with doing a low weight/high rep phase so my muscular endurance wasn't bad at all until I started this diet.

I was just wondering if anybody else is experiencing these type of setbacks. But on a brighter note, for being on the diet for 3 weeks I went from 235lbs to 220lbs. But I've almost eliminated all my carb intake except from beer occasionally (3-4 times a week).

If this is true, you are not really doing South Beach. You should be getting carbs from green veggies first and foremost, and on certain phases of SBD, you should be eating fruits and whole grains. If you are truely eating no carbs (all meat and dairy?) then you will have no glycogen stores and your lifting will likely suffer.
