School is over, finally!! I have no idea what this summer is going to bring contest wise. I'll just have to see how things go and figure it out as I go.

Summer Goals:

Lifting - 3x upper body
Cardio - 9x per week/1 hr each time
Diet - less carbs, more protein

9x per week? Are you serious? That's way too much cardio.

vdk_au - definitely not going to start out doing that much. Probably start this week out at 3 hours but I do want to drop some body fat and then be able to mantain what I did oer the summer when classes start. 9 hours in a maximum, it'll probably end up being 6 hours.

First time back in the gym in about a month. It went pretty well. I don't want to push it this week, so I am just feeling things out to figure out weight and reps for next week. It felt GREAT to be back though.

50 minutes

Bench Press 45-6-8-7 (my and bench do NOT get along. . . . grrrrrr)
DB Flyes - 15-8-8
Assisted Chin Up - 34-5-5-5
Seated Rows - 50-5-5
DB Rear Lateral Raise - 10-8-8-8
DB Military Press - 20-5-5
DB Curls - 15-8-8-8
Hammer Curls - 10-8-8
Triceps Pushdown 50-8-8
DB Triceps Extension - 20-8-8-8
Vertical Knee Raises - 20-20-20
Side Bends - 10-20-20-20
Lever Push Crunch 55-10

Friend's car is in the shop so I haven't been to the gym since Tuesday. I'm still aiming to get some workout in today.

I'm not sure how much I'll be working out for a while. The anorexia urges are coming back really strong so I have to be really careful.

Assisted Chin Up - 34-8-6-6
Seated Rows - 50-5-5
DB Rear Lateral Raise - 10-8-8-8
DB Military Press - 20-8-8
DB Curls - 15-8-8-8
Hammer Curls - 10-8-8

Felt a little better working out. I didn't even wear my usually shorts and sports bra. I wore pants and a tank top, which I've never done before in Baltimore. I am just ashamed with how I look, espeically my lower body.

To the Guerilla Cardio part I agree. Some HITT would probably burn a lot more fat more quickly than doing cardio for 9 hours a week. However, Sophie, if your interest is to get in better cardiovascular shape as well then I think that your running goals are great.

To the being hungry all day I disagree. To put it simply: If your body feels hungry it goes

"Jeeze, when am I going to get another meal here? I'm freaking starving!"

And when you finally feed it, it says,

"Oh man that took forver. I'm only going to use a little bit of this as fuel and store the rest as fat so I'll have it for later. I don't know when I'll get more. She'll just have to tire more quickly since I can't burn all of this now."

As you can see this is not good. Feeling hungry all the time is restricting the fuel your body needs, so it will store what it gets because it knows you're trying to starve it.

You should always try to eat so frequently and with the proper nutritional elements that you never feel hungry. (Except in the morning you will feel hungry unless you're so hardcore you wake up in the middle of the night to eat.Smile)

If you do this your body will think more like this:

"Ah yes, fuel just as I was expecting it, I'll burn all this up and my stockpile in fat for plenty of energy! I know that I'll be getting more when I need it next time. No need to slow me down with this excess storage anymore!"

So to burn fat eat well and eat often. Listen to your body and give it what it needs. When you can do this is when you will be in the best of shape.

I won't be doing that much cardio. My blood pressure has been really low lately so I haven't been doing any cardio, just that one day for 30 minutes.

I know all about what restricting does. Anorexia is not fun and as much as I don't want to go back there, I'd love to lose some weight. The thoughts/urges are just really strong right now.

As for losing body fat, since I have to be careful with eating because of the past anorexia, I planned to do more cardio in order to compensate for a less than perfect diet. I don't know when I'll be doing cardio again. I need to get my blood pressure up first.

As for the cardio Sophie, I still don't think you need to be doing that much in a week. Pardon me if I say anything offensive, but I personally believe you're still have that fear of being too fat, and thus you are doing heaps of cardio. If I were you, I'd probably lower the amount of exercises that are done, and do a higher intensity training, lifting slightly heavier weights, and add 3 days of medium intensity cardio.

I haven't really been doing any cardio yet. My blood pressure had been really low and I was taking is super easy. I think it's back up in the normal range now though.

The reason I want to do so much, when I do get to it, is because I am scared to limit myself in what I cn and cannot eat so my diet will not be the greatest and I figure I can make up some of the difference with cardio.

Why don't you sit down w/ a nutritionist and come up with a diet so you know what you can eat everyday? Then you won't have to worry about making up for over eating with tons of cardio.

I don't eat too much. I don't want to limit myself on what kinds of foods I can eat. It's taken almost 20 years to be able to eat almost whatever I want and I don't wnat to starting limiting intake of any certain food now.

So instead of limiting carbs, which I would do had I not had anorexia and been hospitalized, I'll just do more cardio.

You don't eat too much, thus the more reason you shouldn't be doing too much cardio. I'm telling you that you shouldn't be doing that much. Like I said before, personally I believe you still have that impression that you're "too fat" and thus need to do heaps of cardio to counter that, but you don't. Try like I said before go more towards a higher intensity training, instead of training smaller weights, and doing heaps of exercises in the same workout, and just include cardio training 3x max a week, and I'm sure you'll be on your way to a more leaner body! :D
