Some days... - Saturday, February 21, 2004 9:13 PM
Some days suck.

Some days you're tired; you feel weak. Some days you just feel like crap. Your ass is like a sack of iron filings, and the couch is like a giant magnet -- you just want to lie down and wait for the day to go away.

Some days suck. Some days you have to peel that ass off the couch and drag it into the gym. And when you get there the weights are sitting on the rack mocking you. The plates all look half an inch thicker than normal, and they feel that way as you slide them onto the bar.

Some days suck. Some days you struggle to get four lousy reps for a weight you were able to easily push for six just last week. Some days you stop after every set and wonder if you shouldn't just pack it up and go home -- then you look at the clock and see that it's time to start the next set.

Some days suck. Some days, instead of striding boldly out of the gym, you stagger your way to the shower. Some days you're barely able to wash your hair because you left what little you had out on the bench. Some days you cut yourself three times while shaving because you haven't quite regained control of your arms. Some days you know you're going to wake up sore tomorrow.

Some days suck. Some days your protein clumps up in the shaker and tastes like powdered ass as you drink it down. Some days you look at what has to be your thousandth can of tuna and sigh. Wouldn't it taste so much better if you had a slice of cherry pie instead?

Some days suck. Some days you sink back into that couch with your tuna and your water, exhausted. You put a soccer game on the TV, and you start to eat your sandwich. And as you start to eat you think about how you could have just stayed there the whole time. You think about how you could have been like most of America. You could have stayed on that couch and moaned about how tired you were. You could have sat back, watching TV, eating a pint of Ben & Jerry's, and complaining about how fat you were getting, muttering about how you "gotta do something about that... some day." But instead, you dragged yourself to that gym, and you pushed those weights as hard as you could, for all of your sets. Instead you had your protein and your tuna and your water, and you started planning on doing it all over again. Some days you really get to show what you're made of.

Some days... some days are pretty damn good.

Excellent. I'm speechless.
