So Im working on it - Friday, May 21, 2004 4:06 PM ( #1 )
So Ive been working on this HIIT and changing my diet. I was giving it two weeks till I saw what was going on, however, in the past week and a half, I have put on 7lbs..and to me, it looks like fat. my pants are tighter, and I am still frustrated..do you think this is just my body adapting to the increase in food? I am still eating around 1600, more protein though, and also, I just started working, so instead of normal walking about, Id say that I walk around for about 6 hours a day in an 8 hour shift, but i cut back working out to 4 times a week. I am focusing on weights more, and have been doing less cardio...
I do the HIIT that Wn suggested, 60%, 70% and so on, with a 5 minute warm up, and a 3 minute cool down...and then I do abs 3 times a week, arms twice and legs twice. Granted its only been a few weeks, it makes me really really rally nervous that i have gained weight. I do not feel like it is muscle at all...because it feels like my belly just sticks further out and i have a little pouch down there that i didnt before! Someone please help me out a little bit [&o]

Whenever you're looking for results from any program, a couple of weeks just isn't enough. There could be any number of reasons why you've gained some weight, the hard part is just keeping at it knowing the results will come with time. Of course, seven pounds in two weeks might be worth looking into- Perhaps someone more knowledgable about nutrition might be able to help you out there.
Me, I usually tell people to give a routine at least two or three months before you see whether it's really working or not.

Kel sorry to hear that :( All I can think of is the reducing your amount of cardio? Your body was so used to all that cardio and since you've upped the calories you're not getting that calorie deficit. Maybe give it a few more weeks, but if you still feel you've gained some fat go back to doing the amount of cardio you were doing before.

OH also when I gained more muscle I gained 10lbs and my inches went up a tad!! I wasn't doing enough cardio- I was going crazy on weights.
You may be building too much muscle and not burning enough fat. Remember MALES weight training goals are different than ours. Men want to bulk and get bigger and heavier because it equals Muscle & Size=GOOD! Women, we need to be careful cause if we lift too many weights and not enough cardio we get that butchy look. Think *Trish Stratus*. The girl is super toned and muscular, but she's got some body fat ontop which gives her a stalky look. I guess it's a personal choice- but mine is to stay LEAN yet muscular. Like say... Carmen Diaz for example!
And I know some men here are going to argue Trish Stratus is HOT- but I know ALOT more men that think she's gross. Most men find lean yet muscular and feminine to be ideal. But HEY it's all a matter of taste. I'm just thinking more for your goal which is Modeling.

Oy, this is considered butch? Trish Stratus I'll take that kind of butch any day. Unfortunately, I don't have much of a choice. My body will never look thin like most movie stars, so I have to choose either buff or fat. I'll take buff, LOL.

Luv2Swim, how are you looking now that a little more time has passed? Are you still up in weight and inches? Female bodies are so fickle, hormones, water rentention (did I mention hormones?) can cause all kinds of crazy fluctuations. It could just be your body adjusting to the extra fuel. In BFFM, Tom Venuto does say that some people do have to put in the extra cardio to burn the fat like they want to. Maybe that is just what your body is used to. Maybe do HIIT cardio a couple times a week and longer cardio a couple times a week.

What are your ratios? Maybe you are carb sensitive and you might want to lower your carbs? I dunno, just thinking out loud here.

I know for me personally, weight training has always resulted in a loss of inches, but I have more fat to loose than you two. Hope you figure this mess out.

lol I figured I'd get some Trish fans out after that post.

I mean damn ofcourse she's all toned- that is better than being flabby and unfit anyday! However I just mean, and like I said it's a matter of taste but I prefer the more lean muscular like Anna Kournikova or swimsuit models, etc... To me they have the proper amount of tone and definition without looking like a dude. Trish looks like she's got more testosterone than anymale I know- Imagine her in a muscle shirt- she probably would be mistaken for a dude if you looked at her upper body (minus the implants ofcourse).

check these girls.. I dunno to me this is HOTTTT

RE: So Im working on it - Friday, May 28, 2004 6:23 AM ( #12 )
Hehe, good job stace. I will say, however, these girls aren't a whole lot different, I think all of those women are sexy, although I am straight, I do have a secret crush on marisa miller. That girl is GORGEOUS. I really like her tone, and her body is just really sexy. My friends all make fun of me because I look at SI swim suit and stuff, but oh well. Im not afraid to show that I appreciate other women who take care of their bodies! Anyway, Jen..I feel a little better. I am not really over loading calories or anything, when im not working out, which seems to be more frequently, im taking in about 1600 cals a day. When I do, its around 2000. Yea, and that horomone part? Well, yea, IT SUCKS. I had finals and was bloated and have not been drinking enough water=bloating, for a while there, I couldnt even move, i felt so fat. :( I ve been working upper/lower body about twice a week each, or I am going to try to keep that up. I got up at 530 this morning and am working in the fitness center, so i can actually work out when im here!! whoo hoo. Last time I worked out was monday. I think instead of trying to get up earlier and work out and then come back and showe,r I think im gonna come into work earlier and then get off earlier and shower. so hopefully i can pick up a steady routine soon. However, I do not want to do what I did at school. I felt like I was working out too much, 6 times a week at least, and i was working out for at least an hour each time. I finally got the protein, and im getting used to it, but i must say, i love it already. I just feel better in general. Im gonna say what I ate yesterday, i dont know if my calculations are correct though!
Breakfast
2 Eggwhites
1 piece of honey wheat toast
some ketchup
Glass of milk w/protein
Banana ( I LOVE THEM)

afternoon
mixed yogurt with some cottage cheese
apple

Lunch
peanut butter sandwich with two piece of honey wheat toast (healthy choice)
string cheese

evening protein with water
tuna sandwich with a piece of american cheese
some pistacios...yum

So i dont know what the numbers are there, and I know I need to eat more meat, but i need to head to the store.

Not to sound gross, or to make this post 100 times longer, but lots of protein, it seems to plug ya up. I feel like I need to take some ex lax or something...is there anyhting i can do to make this even?
Today im gonna have some chicken and more veggies..so im not slacking as much in the other good food department.
Also, I take a mulitvitamin and 2 1000mg fish oil capsuls in the morning.
Any more advice?
And well, to lose body fat, how much cardio do you say i SHOULD do a day? I am on my feet a lot during the day. Some people were saying 45 mins, and some were saying 30 every other day...and when i do cardio, im doing the carido that powerhaus, or Mdasuggested...im not such wich, but it was in the first post i had-not reallya critique. whew. im babble so much. i already did about 50 minutes of walking and biking at a slow speed cause im waiting for some of the other machine to open up. So im gonna go and work out some more.
Hey stace, on 4 more days!!! Just so ya'll know, Stacey is going to NYC on June 1st!! yay :) ok, write me a book back, ill love it. talk to ya'll later, i miss you guys when im at work cause im a big nerd. kel

lol Kel I know!! I think Marisa Miller is sooooooo damn hot.. I feel lezbo sometimes cause I just can't stop staring at her in Sports Illustrated or Victoria's Secret...! lol

Thanks MDA: *raises the roof* LOL

Oh and Kel- you still look toned in both those shots!! But hmmmmmmm... you look very similar to the way I bloat alot of the time- I never used to drink enough water, so that definitely could be it. ALSO- and I know this may sound nasty but you may be really backed up!!
I used to have the worst and most irregular bowel movements- so finally I had enough and I went and got a COLONIC (colon hydrotherapy) and that bloat/pouch in the belly went away!! I'm due for another- but you may want to try eating more fibre! Like raisin bran cereal, or try a colonic! But I'm just guessing here- just by the whole bloat thing.

the thing is that i do eat a lot of fiber. :( I did have a big problem with bowels when i was younger...id have a movement about every 5 days. When everything is going right, i go about twice a day...haha, sorry to share all this awesome info with you. but i really just havent been feeling good, and i always feel bloated and not hungry. Its so frustrating...what is the hydrotherapy? anyone else have suggestions? i am a 28.5 in that picture and my progess brought me to a 26 about two weeks ago, im not cheating either! how can i go about this differently?

Oh man... can we please get back to talking about beautiful women?

Anyway... yeah. Lots of protein can clog a body up. I'm not sure there's a lot you can do outside of making sure you get lots of fiber, fruits, and veggies.

As for your recent weight gain, you say you're getting 1600 kcal/day on your rest days, and 2000 when you work out. Back in this thread I estimated that you should be breaking even at about 2200 kcal, so either you're counting calories wrong, or my estimate was wrong (I'm guessing the estimate was off). You might want to try dropping down to 1800 kcal on your workout days and see if that helps -- also make sure you're getting all your water (at least a gallon per day).

Now then, back to the women... I'd like to nominate two ladies who made the excellent decision to play the bass (one of the few things sexier for a woman to do than deadlifts...): Melissa auf der Maur and D'Arcy...
