Ordered a bodyfat caliper and it came in last night. I tried 3 different readings, following the instructions as best as I could. The first time it returned a 15.4%, the second time it read 14.9%. I was feeling pretty good, considering I'm only on week 6 of training. But something just wasn't sitting right, and nagged at me the rest of the evening. So right before bed, I tried once more, and it read 19.3%. That seems more reasonable/realistic, but can't help wondering about the variation. At least the first two readings provided little variance, but the third is way off.

How do I know if I'm doing it right? How much skin should I pinch? It says to pinch in 3 places to calculate: 1) a diagonal pinch on the chest, like between the nipple and armpit; 2) a vertical pinch on the abdomen, slightly off-center; 3) a vertical pinch about mid-thigh, pretty much centered. I guess it measures the distance between the pincers based on an algorithm of the angle of vertex. So if you grab more skin, you'll get a higher reading than if you grab less.

Its a little akward, pinching with one hand and trying to hold the caliper with the other, so that I can depress the button for a reading. Maybe this is where I'm messing up, I don't know. Just thought I'd ask

The Accumeasure is a cheap set of calipers (It says $19.99, but you can get it cheaper) that do the job just fine. The key is that you only need to measure one place and after some practice you can get the measurements to within half a millimeter of each other. The key to bodyfat measurement is not necessarily accuracy, but more consistency. If you measure exactly the same place every time you can track your progress much better by watching numbers decline, no matter where they start. If you are dead set on using your new calipers, which I assume you are after spending the $$$, find some technical support from the manufacturer or your fitness expert. Measure yourself a hundred times if you need to to find out a consistent set of spots. Practice makes perfect when you are talking about BF measurement.

Hypnotised to realise that this surprise will end in demise in front of your eyes. Shining with lies you sent your spies, spat your alibies and your words rotted, rotted and attracted flies. Your boy cries but you proceed to fratenise with those baby blue eyes, eyes like the sky you pleaded for ties. Your stomach cries, and you envisionise a plate full of fries. Lord they are hot though, don't touch, I advise. But you are burned, and penalised, of course overdramatise and you get the prize. I am that boy baby girl and now I will end your 9 lives.

Took me some time to figure out where my Illaiac Crest was and then measure in the same spot consistently. Once I did enough practice, I'm getting similar readings each time. It just takes a little time to pinch the same spot.

It does beep, but that doesn't guarantee you'll get the same reading each time.

It doesn't say, but am I supposed to flex when I pinch? Seems like it would at least make it easier / consistant.
