Signature Length...
-

While I'm not against limiting signature size, I don't think it should be four lines. Just off a freehand count, there's the space of twenty lines to the left of where our text shows (the area with our avatar, and reward points and post count and such). If a post is one line (which a large portion of them are), then with a 4 line signature there's going to be approximately 15 lines worth of space wasted. Why not let the signature length be up to twenty lines, or 200 characters or something. That way if someone wants to type something of this format (not a joke like this, just the same format): Knock Knock Who's there? Marc David. Marc David who? *door breaks* They can, and make better use of that voided space. Images in signatures I think is dumb, and can be gotten rid of. As far as quotes go though, why get rid of them? They're funny and can shed some light on members personalities when new members read them. You don't have to worry about the quotes getting out of hand, I think I'm the only person that did that (18 quotes), and that was just to see how many I could get, and Marc reigned down his fiery hammer upon me, and made a limit of three.

Your signature is a prime example of what we're going to get rid of. Besides the link to reinstate OOB, your signature provides nothing to members trying to read a thread. A signature should be a quick, simple, blurb to express yourself... or to link to something like your journal. It should not be a place to list quotes from other members. If you have something funny that you want others to read, you can post it in the OOB section when it comes back. Signatures are taking up way too much space on DB. We're going to limit the length and height of signatures starting sometime this weekend.

Does that mean my precious, precious banner will be eradicated as well? Quotes I don't really care about...

Yes, your banner will be removed as well. Your avatar is the best place to express yourself with a picture. The banner in your signature gets in the way of trying to read a thread. I actually don't have a problem with your sig (besides the fact that it's animated). But... we need to have some new rules set and it's easier to say "No Images" rather then "images must be less then 255x40 pixels in width and height, not be animated, not ...., not ..., and so on."

This may be the only thing I dont like about "the new db" I agree it has gotten out of hand, but no quotes? I like my banner, and I've been to other message boards with banners similar in size to mine. The banner isn't really the main issue, I would have taken it down simply if someone would have asked. But its more the quotes... I dont have any but I feel as though thats part of the community aspect of DBB. I think it does add to the forum. I would understand limiting the size of the quote, I understand the limiting of the sig's in general. I just feel as though its an unfair limit. So IMO this rule sucks. Everything else is the coolest. Just not this.

The issue with banners is that you like your banner... and maybe a few people also don't mind your banner... but most users don't want to see your banner. It gets in the way of viewing the thread. Also, the issue with banners is that we soon want to get some new form of advertising on DB and in order to sell ad space to publishers, we need less flashy banners on our pages. With regards to quotes... I'm ok if your sig is a simple quote. Multiple quotes are not ok.

So, a line describing my presidency, and a quote of the month is permittable?

So your point is the same as mine... but that we shouldn't limit the amount of words you can use in your signature? If that's the case, you can create a thread in the OOB section explaining who you are in full detail. But, when you reply to a thread about Nutrition no one needs to read multiple sentences about who you are. :) We're all interested in knowing more about the members of DB... we just don't need to read the same stuff over and over again every time a post is made.

Personally I don't care too much about sig size. In my opinion there was no real reason to limit them, but it's not a big deal.

boomersooner1331 so is it necessary for you to have the supplements101.com in your sig? What's your problem here Sooner, am I missing something? If you want to get technical, it's not necessary for anyone to have a sig, I'd say be grateful you're allowed one.
