Let me try and explain the situation as best that I can otherwise you people will have no clue what to tell me!
About a month and a half ago I was lifting (chest day) and I was doing barbell bench when I started to get this pain in my shoulder. (I was taking it fairly easy because it had been so long since I lifted. I only did a couple light warmup sets(1x6@135 and 1x6@185) and then the main set 3x8@225lbs) I figured I just needed to loosen up a bit cuz it had been about 2 weeks since I had any form of intense workout and my diet had been less than steller in the process(finals for my classes were intense and I was unable to lift with all the studying!). I finished my workout by doing some light 3x8@80lbs dumbbell press and went home and lo and hehold my shoulder got incredibly painfull soon after and the next day to the point I could hardly lift my arm but I could still easily write and type. Over the next two weeks I significantly reduced my liftting to only bi's/tri's and legs and even took those easy. I went to the doctor to have it check out a couple weeks ago and the (nurse practitioner) thought the problem was just a pulled deltoid muscle because at that point I had full range of motion in my shoulder. I was also able to do overhead shoulder press without any pain at this time, but putting any weight on a chest exersize was still noticeably painfull so I refrained. Wouldn't this contradict what the practitioner said? I am questioning whether my deltoid was the cluprit, and whether it is safe to up the intensity level without reinjury risk? If my delt was pulled, you would think any overhead movement would be a big problem. Now(2 weeks after consultation) I can do all my exercises without pain EXCEPT I havn't put anything more than 95 lbs on a barbell for chest yet (slightly noticeable pain).
I was praying my rotator cuff wasn't messed up, and while I feel comfortable with the healing process, I am still a bit leary.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
