Shoulder pain - Monday, November 02, 2009 7:37 PM ( #1 )
Whenever i try to shoulder raises ( I've tryed with 15, and 10 pound weights) i get this sharp pain in my shoulder joint. What i figured was that i think i'm "double jointed" in my shoulders, not as in i can twist my arm all over, i'm able to..rite at the shoulder joint, i can basically stretch my tendons and it makes a space.

When i do shoulder raises, it feels like my shoulder joint is going to pop...

Try to warm them up first with stretching and light exercises.  I get some clicks and pops in my joints for the first while working out, but it lessens as the joint fills with fluid.

Could stop doing shoulder raises for one, and make sure you are using  your shoulders properly.

Your not double-jointed, you dont have 2 shoulder joints. No one does with any joint, its a myth.

Beyond that you can warm up some more, there are stretches you can do to stretch the muscles at and around your shoulders.

Personally I would stop doing those all together and have you do standing over head pressing for your shoulders. Those along with bench, you should hit your shoulders just fine for now.

Benching seems to be kind of an issue for me atm, during my chest/bicep workout today after my second set of benches presses ( About 20kg with the bar, not much i know) my left arm was basically giving out and i was unable to complete my last 2 sets. I used the bench press machine with the rails because i knew if i benched without a spotter..i'd kill my self :P

Though i figure my strength will increase over time hopefully.

You won't kill  yourself doing regular bench, if anything the smith machine will make matters worse.

Wrong, using the smith machine is going to hurt you even more. I would highly advice you to stay away from it.

It sounds like you may have a rotator cuff injury, if you can I would go see a doctor to make sure. Otherwise, doing some shoulder joint focused exercises 3 times a day may help you recover from whatever it is thats bothering you.

I don't ever recall getting a rotator cuff injury... And I've  nEVER injured any part of my body, not even a fractured finger.

rotator cuff injuries are pretty common, especially with overuse and overhand lifting or throwing. the most commonly injured muscle is the supraspinatus with pain localizing over the lateral delt. simple test: if you raise your arm laterally so its parallel with the floor and then bring them in 45 degrees, ask someone to press down on your arms while you resist their force. if this elicits pain--you may have supraspinatus tendonitis (rotator cuff tendonitis).

joint clicking and grinding is called crepitus and is a pretty common phenomenon and not really indicative of anything.

either way, you probably would benefit from some shoulder strengthening exercises. hope this helps!

My brother has the same problem as me and he said to do shoulder strengthening exercices every time i go to the gym.

I'm not sure if you guys understood exactly what the issue is, i'll post pics next time to show the difference.

EDIT: i don't have pictures, but in this video ( that's basically exactly my problem) you'll
see what i mean.

It wasn't caused by an injury or anything of the sort, i'm pretty sure it's genetic.
