The search function has become quite useless and hard to look at.

I'll rely that to Kris.  I didn't know it was changed.  Thanks for the heads-up.

I see what you mean.. I did a search for something I needed and found nothing.

Plus I liked the feature of looking for the person who posted it.

Looks like it's using google, which could be an improvement with some tweaks. If you want to search for a particular user, you can include them in the keywords, e.g. [ "Old Navy" phoenix ].

For now we have returned to the old search feature. I thought maybe Google would be best but I agree that it's not optimal to search for posts by a certain user using Google.

If you're logged into the forum you will see the old search. If you're not logged in for now it will show the Google search. You can play around with the Google search if you want by logging out to see if you prefer it over the standard search our site has. If you like or dislike, let Marc and I know here.

In theory the Google search should be better then our standard site search. Our site search only displays topics in which keywords match your search (relevance makes no difference). The forum search feature displays results from newest date and works its way back. Problem is... maybe the most relevant thread was from 9 months ago and that may be on page 7 of the search results. Using Google, it displays results by relevance. Problem is... most members and guests won't know that quotes can be used to search for phrases or "site:discussbodybuilding.com" can be used to only search DiscussBodybuilding. I think in the end it will confuse most members for the time being so I'm bringing back the old search.

Or... instead of what I said above... what if we make the default search google search (for relevance) and then next to the "Search" button we add the text "Advanced Search." After clicking on Advanced Search you'll be taken to the default forum search page where you can search by user and so on. That way, you can have the relevance of Google if you want it, or you can search the forum the way you have always been able to. Best of both worlds. Thoughts?

That would work.

OK... the forum is now setup to use Google as the default search. Clicking "Advanced Search" will open up the default search and you can search by author, sub-forums, and so on.

The default search will search DiscussBodybuilding.com, Supplements101.com, and JustAskMarc.com. You can limit the results by clicking on the link titled "Search only DiscussBodybuilding.com."

Any ideas or input about this new search feature would be appreciated.
