Science Fair project on bodybuilding related topics - Sunday, September 07, 2008 1:49 PM
hey guys, my teacher is making me do science project and I need good bodybuilding related topics.
one of the experiment i was going to do is called "the effect of whey on the growth of muscle".
Give me some ideal topics or things that you have always wondered about because maybe... my experiment could answer it.

I think it's going to be near impossible to have a project showing something that proves or dissproves something bodybuilding related, seeing as hundreds of these tests are carried out every year by real researchers with debatable evidence and results being presented over a period of months/years, with expensive equipment often needed to show these results.
If you're making excuses, you've already failed

Do something non biology related, the best science fair projects would be physics or chemistry, because biological sciences take years to outright prove anything, and you need loads of live samples

And all samples must be treated the same, you just simply wont get any decent data.

Biology is very difficult to make things a "fair test" and theres a lot of debate around as virtuoso says.

As to studies having debatable evidence...eh...its not that the evidence is debatable, its mainly the fact that theyre not really good researchers.

Okay how many scientists do you know who are interested in bodybuilding (apart from me LOL)

The point is most studies that focus specifically on bodybuilding are done by sports scientists, and while theyre great n' all, i know for a fact that they dont work in labs, so when it comes to the nitty gritty, theyre quite new, and they never deal well with extraneous variables, ive seen very few studies that dont have massive gaping holes in them, and most of the time the studies are WAAAY too basic.

We have research on many things but thats pure science, which can be fed into bodybuilding (this is what i do)

but when you see a study aimed particularly for bodybuilding, read it with a pinch of salt, because money is being made somewhere, always remember that with studies, money HAS to be made and IS being made.

Just do a chemistry science fair project.

Just mix hydrogen peroxide (lots, very concentrated) with potassiumIodide

And watch all the kids go "wowwwww"

A+ right there......unless youre in highschool.

Dont tell me they do science fairs in highschools?

Dude, I think you have a good idea.
Virtuoso, he isn't proving or disproving anything...he wants to show the effects of whey on muscle.

If you do it the right way, i think it would be a pretty cool project.
Hopefully you can find a lot of research material.

If he does it the right way it will take many months at minimum, years preferably.

Biology on this scale takes years to prove or disprove because of all the extraneous variables.
