No, you can only enlarge the fibers, it is called hypertrophy, but you would still be dominant in one type. Hyperplasia is the forming of new fibers and it is of yet still considered a myth. You cannot create new types of muscle fibers, only make them bigger.
i give this one to palms.. he's right, Hyperplasia refers to an increase in muscle size(hypertrophy) due to an increase in the number muscle fibers. and while studies on animals do display possible "spliting" in response to long-term, intense and heavy resistance training, it has not difinitivly been proven so.
in a sense, an individual is indeed genetically pre-disposed to a dominance of either type l or ll. for one to cause any aspect of their physique to atrophy in hopes of benifiting in some other way is irresponsible to say the least.
there should be a healthy ballance depending on the individuals disposition.
however "palms" i still insist that slow-twitch burn more fat on an equal scale, as they require an oxidative metabolism of energy, as well contain a larger mitocondria and related enzymes , with more blood capillaries and "intercellular fat"
just look at two prime representitives of each categlory
a marathon runner (dominatly type l)
and a power-lifter (dominatly type ll)
who has all the muscle (trained just about daily) but is still fat...? a power-lifter everytime! and calorie consumption is relativly equal in both cases.
dont you think it's best to train every aspect or ones anotomy? at least with this kid here. the best thing he can do is train every bit of his body; naturaly some groups may need more trainging than others, considering his own make-up, yes, but that way when he's older he is perfectly set up for whatever type of training he wishes to further persue?
i think so
