ORIGINAL: builtdarntough150 5'8 176 ibs? overweight but slightly. Try going to fitday.com it'll show you what healthy weight is for your size. Im 5'7 pushing 5'8, and I weigh 157 ibs. Im a little small though, just on the little side. Anyway, butt exercises I can name you are squats. Running does help. BB Good Mornings also help. If you have any questions about the exercises, just reply here and I'll be more specific. Good luck & Later. so you say running stairs wont help? i have 11 lbs dumbells. can i develop my butt muscles if i use those dumbells with squat? and what should i eat before and after exercise?

I was always under the impression that BB Good Mornings were specifically for the lower back and targeted the hamstrings as a secondary muscle. My arse feels fine when I do them, but my back gets a hell of a workout.

However, Good Mornings aren't the safest exercise out there- Do stiff leg deadlifts instead, they put the body in a more natural position in relation to the weight you're lifting, yet work the same target areas. Running will help burn some fat and give the muscles in your butt a bit of a workout- but for the best results as far as muscle growth and strength, you definitely need some serious squats- And no, eleven pound dumbbells aren't going to do it. Think about it- Your legs carry your body around all day long. They're going to need more than twenty two extra pounds of weight to really challenge them. As with anything though, diet is key to success- Check out this link if you don't already know how many calories you really need to reach your goals. http://www.discussbodybuilding.com/What_the_hell_is_a_calorie_anyway/m_135283/tm.htm

Squats get this bad reputation of being a dangerous exercise- Put it this way, every single exercise out there has the potential to be dangerous, and squats are no different. They do involve more muscle than any other exercise out there, which means you really have to pay attention to good form- You have a gym membership, the best bet for you is to see if you can get a trainer to go over the proper form with you a few times until you get the feel for it- Don't even put ANY weight on the bar at first, your body seriously has to learn the proper form, and get it in it's muscle memory before you start with weight. You know your body better than anyone, you'll know when you feel comfortable adding weight- Don't go nuts throwing weight on, increase the amounts slowly over time. Before you know it, you'll be squatting like a champ. As far as Fitday goes- According to them, at my height and weight, I'm considered dangerously overweight. Unless they've changed their methods of calculation to allow for muscle mass, don't pay attention to what Fitday says about your weight.
