Running Intensity and How Often - Tuesday, June 13, 2006 11:11 PM ( #1 )
Hi everyone.  Just got a question.  I'm currently in the process of losing fat, and i've been running pretty much every day for about 30 min 5.2mph try to do it nonstop.  I've been pretty successfull dropping about 50 pounds over the past 3 months. I've obviously built up to being able to run for such a long amount of time.  However, now after every time I run and even during my running, it feels like my hamstrings tighten up and feels like they're almost cramping up.  I"m getting enough calcium, and i try to drink as much water as I can.  However, my muscles feel like that, and my knees hurt a lot.  I've been doing it every day with a break  day maybe once a week.  I try to burn about 500 to 700 every time i work out on the treadmill.  How should i space out the days, and how do i get rid of this pain.  Thanks everyone in advance.
Motivation gets you started. Determination keeps you going. Anger fuels you and never lets you stop.

To be the best, you must train for the worst.

You've probably already hit a plateau w.r.t. your workout, you should vary your type of cardio on a regular basis, ie rowing one day, running the next, jumping rope another, and getting on my favorite the stair master (the thing that helped me lose my 70lbs)... the exercise bike is another good low intensity thing.

Cardio is all about not letting your body get used to what your doing, so it might be advantageous to take a week off; then go back to a more varied routine... you should take a week off every eight weeks or so anyways as way to shock the body.

I hope this helps/makes sense, if you have any other questions PM me, it is unlikely that i'll see this post again,

Nick
