Routine for Wife - Saturday, November 18, 2006 5:50 PM ( #1 )
Hey Ladies,

My wife also wants to tone her body to add more curves and eliminate more body fat.  She's sexy as it is, but wants some target areas toned, like adding more to her calves, reducing the fat around the abs and triceps, etc.

I know we can't spot reduce, so she actually is doing the same 3-day split routine I'm doing, but with lighter weights (Day1= Chest-Triceps, Day2= Back-Biceps, Day3=Legs-Shoulders), using the exact same exercise for men.

My question is, is it okay to proceed with this training?

Or follow a video I bought for her before entitled THE FIRM, WHOLE BODY WORKOUT (W/ EMPHASIS ON THE THIGHS & BUNS)?  The video is cardio & weight lifting combined with more exercises on the Legs.  Problem is it is a full-body workout, so she can only do it once a week since her muscles need to rest to grow, right?

Halp!  Which should she choose!  She doesn't want to bulk up, just get the "beach body" figure! Thanks!

Off the cuff, I would do your 3 day split. The video sounds like it is going to be very enduranced based (nothing wrong with that), the weight work with high reps, I'm going to guess. It doesn't sound like she has  much fat to get rid of, so it is not like she has to do heavy cardio (like I am assuming the tape consists of). If curvy she wants and flabby she doesn't, than doing the same routine you do should be great. I am going to assume that you do cardio a couple days a week in addition to your lifting, so she should do that to. And obviously her eating needs to be in line, appropriate for fat loss, with enough protien to feed the muscle.

There's nothing wrong with a woman lifting the same as a man, so she should be fine, as long as she has proper form. The lifting will make her more shapely, cardio and diet will help trim the fat, and with patience she should get the results she is looking for.

one last thing. There is no such thing as "tone". Tone means something totally different. What most people mean by "tone", the word "more defined, or less fat" should be used.
