Results from MAX-out day - Wednesday, June 04, 2008 5:35 PM ( #1 )
Well,  after 2 cycles of HST here are my results from maxing out today.
Keep in mind, I have only been doing deadlifts/squats since february, so this seems like great progress to me.

Had a redline, and off we went to flatbench first.

Flatbench = 300lbs,  tried 305 and only got it halfway up. i was dissapointed.

Squats = 235lbs,   on 225 I got off balance, but still got it up.  with 235 it was a solid push with good form.  Felt great

Deadlift = 315lbs,  This was my goal, and I still had a little energy left-over.  No weight belt was used but my form was nearly perfect my partner said.   What should my new goal be now on deads??  365??? i'm totally stoked I got 3 plates and it felt almost easy too.  Didn't wanna go too much more b/c we still had other things to do

Sitting BB Shoulder Press = 225lbs,  Form was real good on this weight, and i MAY have been able to get 230, but didn't wanna try today.  Real happy about 2 plates on shoulder press.

Bicep E-Z Curls = 135lbs,   Barely got this up, but I was not leaning whatsoever.  Just powered myself thru it.  i was determined to get more than last time.  Had no more energy to lift higher than that.

Was a great day at the gym.  And I can't wait to start strength training in a week after deconditioning.

great job, sorry about the bench though, but HST has never been good for bench IMO. Good results though, keep up the good work!

You might've been tired from pushing 300 already though.

I think he means that he means that you benched 300 then tried 305, that would make sense if you tried 300 first.

Overall those are some awesome numbers. You still need a lot of work on squats and deadlifts. I don't get how your bench is so high and your squats and deadlift is so low. Keep working man.
Old Lifts: Bench-335, Squat-455, Deadlift-495
New lifts: Bench-375, Squat-545, Deadlift- 585

The weights are too close. Next time, when you max out try to warmup, then try something like 255lbs, 275lbs and 305lbs.

sorry guys. i think there's a bit of mis-understanding.  i just posted the FINAL numbers.  i warmed up on every exercise and then slowly increased the weight.

for example.   on flatbench, i did 135 pounds 6 times to warm up,   225 twice,  255 once, 275 once,  295 once, ....  you see my point?

i didn't post the entire routine, just what i maxed out once on.

leg beast -- i have been bodybuilding for 6+ years now.        but have NEVER done deadlifts or squats until 5 months ago.  i JUST STARTED doing them right after the new year started

those are nice lifts... well besides your squat but we know the story.  haha your shoulder press was 10lbs less than your squat.  It seems like it is progressing though.  A good 3x5 or 5x5 program would help that i think.

HST did its job for you though.
No the leg press is not the same as doing squats.

You missed the point. No one said you didn't warm up. The claim was, that 295, 300 and 305 are too close. That's why you failed with 305.

And he was questioning me when I was quickly jumping to what I thought were my maxes (on some lifts)! No reason to waste time after you get warmed up. Never doubt me again Jason! :) Although I think I made the same mistake on deadlift.. tired myself out by going up too slowly (guess I was nervous b/c it was my first time maxing on deads).

225 lbs shoulder press, thats crazy man. good numbers man keep it up, hit your chest hard you can make it past 305, a buddy of mine was stuck at 300 flat. after a few weeks of hitting his chest HARD, he was able to get 335. make sure you're getting nice, full extensions on your bench press. he did high reps of 225 til burnout btw if you want to try that.
first day with no buds, 11/17, need a new job. 1 down 13 to go.

I think there are a few reasons for this.
A. You had a strong bench to begin with.
B. HST isn't geared towards strength gains.
C. Your legs are way behind still.

Obviously these comments apply to me as well. Hell.. my bench has gone down from 5 months ago, of course I've lost 40 lbs., but that's neither here nor there. I used to hear guys talk about working out your legs if you want your bench to go up. And I think there's a lot of truth to that. Your body wants to be balanced and I think once our legs catch up to our upper body, then our #'s on bench and such will grow again. Also, I expect to see some improvement with the strength routine we are about to start. I have a feeling you'll be hitting 315 very soon and I'll hit 300 again. Let's face it though, its kind of silly that we bench more than we deadlift and squat. Hell, you almost shoulder pressed your squat. No worries though, we are on the right track.

not anymore on the deadlift for me.   we'll get yours up there too, but mine finally topped 300.
