is it bad to have the shoulders go to the side instead of the front? if so why?

The link Wyrms posted is the way you should do it.  That is one of the best upper body exercises in existence.  Of course Oly lifts are better, but the majority of them usually start with the weight on the ground and end up being held over your head.

im a fan of olympic lifting, but doing them is antoher story lol
i dont like the fact your holding a 200lb bar over your/behind your head. doesnt seem so safe to me. i've seen many bbbing injuries but more olympic lifting injuries when lifting. (on youtube! lmao)

yeah i bet coldfire is gonna be like "tommy, you are a dumb****." then open a can of stevenhawking-lifting whoopass on me! ahaha im still pumped from my hst workout today thats why i sound so weird and energetic

The most efficient way to press the bar up, is when the elbows are under the bar. That's why you move them forward. If you let them go to the sides and back, it will be harder and the bar path will be wrong.

It's hard to tell from that angle, though it looks not bad. The elbows should be put in front of the chest which means, under the bar. Read my post again.
